While it's unusual to find ski apartments that sleep groups of more than 8 or 10 people, self-catering apartments remain very popular for group ski holidays because you can usually request that you be allocated several apartments close together, and the super cheap price of a large self-catered ski apartment means that the basic holiday cost remains extremely low.

This low starting price makes the group ski trip affordable to the maximum number of friends and family, because those on a tighter budget can cater for themselves, and the more flush in the group can eat out to avoid the effort of food shopping, cooking and washing up. We think it's fair to say that, among all the different types of group ski holidays, those in self-catered apartments allow the largest number of people to go away skiing together.

Group ski apartments are a real budget booster and can allow you to ski in a better resort than you might afford if booking a chalet or hotel. For those who spend all day on the piste and all evening on the town, self-catered group skiing is also the perfect choice if your digs are merely a place to sleep. If you have a large ski group booking self-catering apartments, it's worth discussing whether you all want to cook and eat together at least some of the time,

because that might affect the room types and sizes that you decide to go for. For example a group of 18 might have a choice of apartments which sleep up to 4, to 6 or to 8 people. If you plan to eat out or not cook together, you might prefer mostly 4 berth so you have less people in each apartment. If you want to cook and eat together, it may be better to choose at least one apartment for 8, so that you have a room with a fighting chance of squeezing you all in for supper.

The best self-catering holidays for group skiing tend to be in the resorts with the most variety both on the piste and in the resort.
