Lapland Ice Hotel

The Snow Hotel in Lapland, also known as the Lainio Snow Village, is an extraordinary sight to behold. 20 million kilos of snow and 350 000 kilos of ice are used to build an entire village set nearly 200km above the Arctic Circle. The village is revived each year with the fresh snowfall, meaning the hotel's theme and design changes year on year, previous themes have included Game of Thrones and Artic Illusions.

You can visit the Lainio Snow Village from both Yllas and Levi; it is 30km from Yllas and 45km from Levi. If added on as an excursion to your Lapland holiday booked through us, shared taxi transfers will be included from your resort. You can visit the amazing Lainio Snow Village as either a day trip or an overnight stay!

Ice Hotel Rooms

If you are brave enough to brace the cold and book an overnight stay at the Lainio Snow Village, you will not be disappointed! You will be provided with high-quality thermal sleeping bags in your suites, but if you do get too cold, there are rooms you can retire to with facilities to help you warm up. The average temperate in the suites ranges between 0 and -5 Celsius regardless of the outside temperature. It is recommended you bring your own thermal layers to wear under the sleeping bag in bed. Lainio Snow Village has 16 Snow suites sleeping 2–5 people, do note that an overnight stay is not recommended for children under 4.

Your overnight stay will include a room wake up call with hot berry juice and buffet breakfast at the warm onsite log restaurant – you will also receive a certificate to commemorate your nights stay. Dinner is not included in the overnight stay price but can be taken in one of the onsite restaurants. It is recommended that you pre-book this directly with the Snow Village before travelling.

What to do at the Ice Hotel?

The Lainio Snow Village can be visited from Yllas or Levi either as a day trip or as an overnight stay. Whichever option you choose there is plenty to do and see at the Village, you will start with a guided tour and then be left with free time to continue with your own exploring. At the village, you can see incredible themed ice sculptures, the intricately decorated snow suites, the Ice Restaurant, the Krouvi Log Restaurant, have some drinks at the Ice bar and even visit the Ice Chapel.

The Ice Chapel at the Snow Village does operate weddings so you may be lucky enough to see a beautiful Winter Bride in her snow boots! Lainio Snow Village is where the famous Ice Hotel can be found. The Snow Village is in North West Finland set around 200km North of the Arctic Circle and the resorts that in can be visited from are Yllas and Levi. If booked as an excursion onto your holiday you have booked through us, then shared taxi transfers will be included to and from your resort.

The suites can accommodate extra beds sleeping up to 5 if you are looking to book as a family, but please note that an overnight stay is not recommended for children under 4 due to the low temperatures.

Everything is made from Ice, including the walls, the bar, the sculptures and even the beds in the Ice Suites. Each year the village changes in shape, design, and layout as they build afresh every year under a new theme.

You will be wearing your thermal suits and boots that you will have booked for your weeklong stay with several thermal layers’ underneath. Warm blankets are provided in the Ice Restaurant and Ice Bar. High-quality thermal sleeping bags will be available in your suites if you are doing the overnight stay.
