Lapland Family Skiing

Lapland’s ski resorts have clearly been designed with children in mind – they’re super easy to navigate and contain mostly gentle, forgiving terrain, with the odd steeper bit for parents and older siblings. Features like fire pits are dotted around to keep everyone warm and toasty, and cafes are close-by for rewarding hot chocolates. If you’re bringing beginners, the ski schools here have an excellent reputation, with kids and beginners’ areas to help learners conquer the basics. And the snow quality’s top notch, so you rarely have to worry about ice or slush.

Lapland Family Activities

Tobogganing is big in Lapland and some resorts have dedicated slopes complete with their own magic carpet lifts. Many resorts offer free hire and toboggans aren’t just for sliding down hills – they’re great for pulling tired tots around the resort. The region has reindeer farms galore, where you can usually meet Rudolf and co, practice herding them and even take them out for a sleigh ride! Husky sledding is a fabulous family activity – let the little ones curl up in cosy sleds yelling shout ‘mush!’ while you stand on the back and pilot the dogs through beautiful wintery surroundings. Snowmobile safaris are a ton of fun too and some resorts even have mini snowmobiles for youngsters to zip around in.

Lapland Family Hotels

The Lappish resorts are spectacular for families and their hotels are no exception. With convenient locations in village centres and near ski lifts, trudging about in the snow is kept to a happy minimum. There are some fabulous child-focussed facilities, from bowling alleys and bouncy castles to play rooms and special children’s swimming pools. Menus are carefully planned with young eaters in mind and parent’s aren’t forgotten – on-site bars and spas make sure you relax and enjoy the trip as much as they do. See our hotels in Lapland here.

Lapland Family Santa Breaks

If there’s one thing Lapland’s famous for, it’s the fact that Father Christmas lives here. Worlds away from your shopping centre’s slapdash grotto, you can meet the man himself in his magical forest cabin, play with the elves and meet real-life reindeer. Come for story-time, a cooking session or slap up supper, and combine your trip with a husky ride or snowmobile tour. What exactly is included in your Santa experience differs from package to package, so ask us to check the specifics to help find the perfect one for your family.

Lapland weather for Family Holidays

The weather in Lapland can get seriously chilly but the resorts do a stellar job at coping with the cold. Buildings tend to be well insulated and heated and there are usually campfires dotted about the resort where you can all warm up. With lots of holidays we can arrange snowsuit hire for the kids, which will keep them toasty warm and save you investing something that’ll be too small for them next year! The plus side to the cold weather is that you’re pretty much guaranteed a family holiday in a snow-covered winter wonderland, whenever you choose to visit.

Lapland Family Self Catering

Sometimes control of the catering’s the easiest way to keep the clan happy – cook the meals you know they’ll love and maintain their usual routines to ensure everyone’s well fed and well rested. Having your own space is another big bonus of self-catering when travelling with children. You can all relax in your apartment or cabin without having to worry about other guests interrupting the peace – whether that means suppers in your pyjamas, silly board games or good old-fashioned movie nights. All of our amazing Lapland apartments can be seen here.
