One reason we love Saas-Fee for last-minute ski trips is that it’s a proper escape – you’re high up in the Saas valley, with the Dom (Switzerland’s highest mountain) being one of the 13 four thousand metre peaks looming over. The car-free village is quiet and traditional, with good après ski if you know where to look (Popcorn and the Dom bar are two favourites).

Secondly, the snow is nearly always amazing – so good that you can ski on the Allain glacier in the summer.
