Grand Hotel Belvedere Summary

The Belvedere’s in a cracking spot. You’re just a short walk from the lifts and village centre – and those views of the Jungfrau peaks? Pretty special. The hotel itself blends old-world charm with modern comfort, housed in two historic Belle Époque buildings originally built in 1912. Lots of original features, like the windows and wall paintings, have been carefully retouched, preserving the place’s character while adding a refined, luxurious feel.

Step inside and you’ll notice a distinct woody scent in the rooms. And there are plenty more spaces to unwind, with a couple of cosy lounges and bars, and a fab spa – think sauna, steam room, hammam, heated indoor-outdoor pool, ice bath and a relaxation room. There are four treatment rooms as well, perfect for a post-ski massage.

Inside, it’s all about alpine elegance, with locally sourced spruce wood, granite stone and soft woollen fabrics setting the scene. The bedrooms are bright and airy, with big windows that flood the space with light. Some come with balconies, so you can step out and soak up the mountain air. The renovation’s brought in bespoke furniture and thoughtful touches that nod to the building’s heritage, while keeping things fresh. Service is warm and attentive – the kind where nothing’s too much trouble, and you'll feel genuinely looked after.

When it’s time to eat, you’re in for a treat. The restaurant keeps things simple but elevated, using fresh, seasonal ingredients to create dishes that feel both comforting and indulgent – with a focus on local cuisine. Breakfast’s a highlight, with homemade jams, fresh bread from the village bakery and options like avocado toast. And for a laid-back après-ski vibe, the Swiss-style Bergwald Bar or the sun terrace overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley are just the ticket.

Please note: The pool and spa area at the Grand Hotel Belvedere is closed for renovation. These facilities are due to reopen in time for Winter 2025/26.

Special offer: For Winter 2025/26, book a stay of 7 nights or more at this hotel and get two complimentary 30-minute body massages during your stay.

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Jungfrau and looking out over the Eiger and Monch massive, Wengen is a truly spectacular location for a ski holiday. It’s linked to the resorts of Grindelwald, Mürren and Lauterbrunnen, forming the large Jungfrau ski area of over 200km. The famous Jungfrau region is one of the oldest and most popular holiday destinations in Switzerland and the sunny resort has long been a favourite with Brits. It dates back to around 1911, after tourists convinced the resort to keep their...
The railway still remains the key mode of transport between the ski areas – use it to get over to Grindelwald, Mürren, or Kleine Scheidegg at the base of the Eiger. However, it’s still possible to ski without catching the train thanks to the modern Männlichenbahn gondola. Total beginners should probably start with the Wengiboden nursery slope in the village if there is enough snow, but just remember it’s best in the mornings before the sun hits it. There’s also the Figeller children’s area, where the S...
Wengen certainly isn’t one of those mega party resorts you get in some parts of the Alps but there are some fun places for an après-ski tipple - head to Rocks Bar for televised sports events or go dancing at the Blue Monkey. There are some great restaurants in Wengen, many of which are based in hotels (but open to the public). For fine dining, Chez Meyer's Le Grand restaurant at the Hotel Regina is a must – its outstanding service and French cuisine has been granted 15/20 Gault Millau points (similar to Mi...
