A great-value pick that’s close to the slopes and packed with classic charm – that’s the Hotel Alpen Roc. A short stroll to the gondola will have you set to explore the Portes du Soleil ski area in no time. And when you’re ready to call it a day, a few lazy laps in the covered indoor pool or chill time in the hot tub should be just what you need to unwind.

The hotel’s got that traditional mountain chalet look, with exposed timber beams and stone walls. It’s the same story on the inside too – the snug rooms are decked out with wood décor, from the furnishings to the ceiling. And the red and white checkered bedding sure does add an extra cosy touch.

Food-wise, you’ll get a buffet breakfast and 3-course evening meal, with eats like a rack of lamb or lobster risotto on the set-menu. Then, if you’re after a quiet drink, the hotel’s bar is a good little spot. Or you can head to the resort centre to soak up Morzine’s lively après scene.
