The Cayman Islands have a tropical climate and are blessed with warm weather all year round. There is a dry, cooler season from November to April and a hot, rainy season from May to October. The “coolest” months are January and February, with low temperatures of 20°C and maximum temperatures of 28°C - ideal for a winter sun getaway. The highest temperatures are between June and September with highs of 32°C. There is more rain during the hotter months, although showers usually only last for a few hours at a time and are followed by sunshine.

For the best conditions of your snorkelling adventure of s lifetime, visit the Cayman Islands between March and June. Between these months, the waters are clear and calm making it perfect for snorkelling and scubadiving.

Surfing is great all year round in the Cayman Islands, especially if you are a beginner as average waves are anywhere from 3 to 5 feet. If you are looking for a challenge, visit the islands between December and March for bigger waves.

If you want to explore the island, visiting the Cayman Islands during the dry season is the best time to do so as there is less of a chance of rain and the temperatures are not as hot as in the wet season.

Cayman Islands in January

January is a popular month to escape the winter chill and visit the warm beaches of the Cayman Islands. Temperatures can reach a maximum of 28°C and there is a low chance of rain. The Taste of Cayman food festival is held on the last Saturday in January showcasing different cuisines from more than 40 restuarants.

Cayman Islands in February

Much like January, February is cooler than other months but still has temperature highs of 29°C. It continues to have a low chance of rainfall and is generally another busy month on the islands. There are several events in February in the Cayman Islands including Super Bowl celebrations, Agricultural Show, Red Sky at Night Festival and Off The Beaten Track ultra-marathon race.

Cayman Islands in March

Temperatures can peak at 29°C in March with an average temperature of 24°C. Making the most of the warm consistent weather, there are lots of events in March including Little Cayman Mardi Gras, held on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday (sometimes falling in February), St. Patrick’s Day 5k Irish Jog and The Cayman Islands Orchid Show held at the Botanical Park.

Cayman Islands in April

Temperatures begin to rise in April, with an average of 26°C during the day and highs of 30°C. It is the driest month of the year and a popular time to visit during the Easter Holidays. Enjoy lots of family-friendly events over Easter in the Cayman Islands including the Kaibo Kitefest and Easter Regatta.

Cayman Islands in May

May is hotter still with high temperatures of 31°C, and an average day temperature of 27°C. Rainfall begins to increase as we approach the wet season, but any rain will fall in short bursts quickly followed by sunshine. Don’t miss the Annual Batabana Carnival in George Town which is usually held in early May.

Cayman Islands in June

Temperatures rise and the chance of rain grows in June. Any showers are short and with at least 8 hours of sunshine every day, you can still enjoy all the stunning beaches and the best of the Cayman Islands. Enjoy the Cayman Islands International Aviation Week, an annual air show off Grand Cayman.

Cayman Islands in July

Very similar to June, the average temperature is 28°C with highs of 32°C. July is generally quieter and holiday prices can be cheaper but be aware that this is the hurricane season - however the island’s location in the western part of the Caribbean shields them from being hit too hard. Celebrate Constitution Day at Camana Bay Harbour on the 4th of July and catch a family-friendly movie under the stars every Tuesday throughout July and August at Summer Moonlight & Movies.

Cayman Islands in August

August is one of the wettest months, with 150mm of rainfall on average. But these showers last mere hours and there is still plenty of sunshine. Average temperatures are 28°C but can reach 32°C. There are no big events in August, but you can still catch the Summer Moonlight & Movies every Tuesday in Camana Bay Harbour.

The wet weather continues in September and humidity reaches its peak. Temperatures can reach 32°C and on average sit at 28°C. There are no big events this month.

Cayman Islands in October

As with September, October is one of the wettest months of the year. As it is in the wet season, it is less busy and as there is still plenty of sunshine and high temperatures of around 31°C, you can still enjoy a fun holiday. Don’t miss Cayman Cocktail Week in October!

Cayman Islands in November

November is the beginning of the dry season, when the weather improves and holidaymakers flock back to the islands. Temperatures can reach highs of 30°C and the average temperature of any given day is 26°C. There are lots of events throughout the month, including Pirates Week, The Cayman Islands Triathlon and Twinkling Lights at Camana Bay that marks the start of the festive season.

A slightly cooler month, temperatures in December average around 25°C. December is considerably dryer than previous months and is a busy time of year for holidays. Enjoy lots of Christmas fun and events throughout the month and ring in the New Year on Seven Mile Beach for the New Year’s Eve Fireworks.
