Easter traditions in the Cayman Islands

Easter is a very traditional time in the Cayman Islands. Each year hundreds of locals flock to the beaches and pitch a tent for the weekend. Along Queen’s Highway in East End, and in and around Cayman Kai and Rum Point are all popular camping spots for Easter weekend.

On Easter Monday, the blue skies above Kaibo Restaurant at Cayman Kai beach are filled with colourful, bright kites soaring high in the sky. The annual Kite Fest is in honour of old Caymanian tradition.

Special Easter events are held in hotels and towns across the island as well as churches holding special festive services on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

There are many family-friendly events in Grand Cayman around this festive period, including a fun easter egg hunt where hundreds of eggs are buried in the sand and children can dig them up to swap for treats! There is an Easter egg scavenger hunt, and arts and crafts at the Cayman Turtle Centre. There is also live music and a poolside BBQ.
