If you just want to fly and flop, it's hard to beat an all inclusive beach holiday. With dreamy destinations the world over, all you need do is decide whether you prefer a short-haul option to one of Europe's hot spots like gorgeous Greece and tranquil Turkey... or a slice of long-haul Instagram click-bait in Caribbean coral attols like the Bahamas and Barbados, or island paradise in the Maldives and Seychelles. For super-bling and shiny we recommend Dubai and Thailand and Bali for something a little more exotic.
If you don't mind too much where you travel to, even in the peak school-holiday dates, you can find some terrific late deals. High season dates mostly coincide with the school holidays and include October half-term holidays, Christmas holidays, New Year holidays, February half-term holidays, Easter holidays and of course the big one, summer package holidays. The top-tip with these peak dates, is that you should probably not wait until the last minute to book, if you need to go to a specific place, or to the most popular destinations for family holidays, because they may well be completely sold out, or even go up in price when the chartered planes are full and remaining holidays are packaged with scheduled flights at inflated prices.
If you don't need winter sun, then the cheapest last minute holidays during the UK winter will be going to European destinations. They'll be warmer than the UK, but remember it's still winter in the mediteranean when it's winter here, so consider going long-haul for some winter sun, or better still look at last minute ski holidays to burn off those Christmas calories!
For guaranteed, or at least much more likely sunshine, you need to fly further afield. Leave your umbrella-ella-ella at work and shine bright like a diamond in Rihanna's beautiful Barbados. The other ultra-glam Caribbean destinations can often be found cheaper at the last minute if you don't mind adding a stop or two on the cheaper connecting flights via somewhere else. Our favourite luxurious last minute getaways are the ones we perhaps can't afford or justify at full price :-)
