Zakopane’s the best known resort in this neck of the woods, popular for its position among the Tatra mountains – the highest peaks in Poland. There are four ski areas to explore here (Kasprowy Wierch, Nosal, Szymoszkowa and Harenda).
Szczyrk, in the Beskidy mountains, has a sunny and sheltered location and Poland’s biggest ski area, covering 40km.
With the highest peaks in the Sudety mountains and near the Czech Republic, the mining town of Karpacz has the local Kopa ski area, with others nearby if you fancy a change of scenery.
