SNO-man says

A quiet friendly village in the Valfurva Valley above Bormio. The architecture is very Italian and the scenery unspoilt and tranquil. The skiing is best suited to intermediates, but there are several testing blacks and the option for late season off-piste with a guide or high mountain touring.

The local Alpine Guides offer a full programme of sporting activities, among them Winter hiking, trekking, mountaineering and climbing. Therrer are also guided mountain-bike excursions. Nordic walking with sticks, simulating the classic technique of cross country skiing, is also offered. This is an ideal training sport as it involves the use of 85% of your muscles. The nearby Palazzetto dello Sport has an indoor climbing wall and there's an open air skating rink in the village. A trip down to test the various thermal pools and swimming complexes at Bormio should not be missed. At the Bormio Thermal Baths you can have a relaxing bath in the sulphate-alkaline water that gushes from the Cinglaccia source at a temperature of 40° C. The Old Baths are the only example in the Alps offering therapeutic sauna, hydromassage baths, waterfalls and an external swimming pool.

"Santa Caterina" by any other name

The Italian resort is also known as Santa Caterina Costa Sobretta and has common misspellings:

The direction which the various Santa Caterina slopes face can make or break your ski holiday. To guarantee good snow conditions, choose a resort with piste which face the right way for the time of year you're travelling.

- In the coldest winter months of January and February pick a resort with sunny south facing slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a resort with cool and shady north facing trails will ensure you're not riding on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow. The best destinations have areas which face in all directions so that you're guaranteed greating conditions whatever the weather. Santa Caterina has slopes facing ?.
