There is an almost endless list of non-skiing activities in an around Auron. You can be energetic: try snowmobiling, ice skating, snow shoe walking, ice climbing, tobogganing; perhaps you're feeling self-indulgent: relax with a sauna, jacuzzi, a sleigh ride, shopping; or how about cultural: there are three museums, a cinema and two very beautiful churches to visit.

"Auron" by any other name

The French resort is also known as Massif Mercantour and has common misspellings:

The direction which the various Auron slopes face can make or break your ski holiday. To guarantee good snow conditions, choose a resort with piste which face the right way for the time of year you're travelling.

- In the coldest winter months of January and February pick a resort with sunny south facing slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a resort with cool and shady north facing trails will ensure you're not riding on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow. The best destinations have areas which face in all directions so that you're guaranteed greating conditions whatever the weather. Auron has slopes facing ?.

Childcare in Auron, France

Auron day and evening care plus snow ski schools and babysitting.

With the wide range of snow terrain and an almost endless list of non-ski activities, this is a great resort for families of all age ranges. Babies and toddlers can be looked after in the local creche and children of 4 years and over will have fun in their own ski school, the 'Mini Club'. Both the creche and the ski school are closed at midday so, no matter how great the skiing is, parents must remember to pick up their little darlings for lunch.

Auron Shopping

Auron shopping - fashion boutiques, outdoor gear and food shops

There are two supermarkets, some bakers and a butchers but self caterers might like to try the specialist food shops in St Etienne de Tinee where there is great local produce for sale. The village also has all the other essentials available at its chemist, post office, bank, ATMs and so on. Like most French resorts, Auron has great shops, although they are not particularly cheap. There are a couple of chic boutiques and souvenir shops but the majority sell ski and sports equipment. For truly dedicated shoppers, though, a trip to the designer shops of the Cote d'Azur is a must.
