January to April sees the best weather in Trinidad and Tobago, with the least amount of rainfall, accompanied by temperatures in the high 20s/low 30s. March makes for the best month for travel here, but bear in mind, that it also makes it one of the busiest. February is another buzzing month, as the main carnival takes place across the islands, meaning the atmosphere in February is electric and not to be missed.

Generally, Trinidad and Tobago have some of the best weather conditions across the Caribbean. With temperatures barely ever reaching below 20°C daily, the islands offer great tropical climates for all types of holidays, from water sports and adventure to relaxation and beach breaks. The wet season starts around mid-May and lasts until December. Trinidad and Tobago sit outside of the hurricane belt, and although the short showers during these months may seem inconvenient, these months can actually offer some of the best conditions to holiday in. With the climate and sea temperatures at their highest, the short sharp bursts of rain offer a chance to cool down while exploring the islands these months.

Peak season in Trinidad and Tobago

The peak season runs from January to late April, with the weather sitting comfortably in the high 20’s. The weather during this time is mostly sunny, warm and dry, offering some of the best conditions for water sports and hiking, or just to simply relax. With the perfect weather comes crowds of tourists, these are some of the busiest months, as to be expected, meaning prices are generally a little more on the higher side and availability is lower.

Low season in Trinidad and Tobago

Mid May to December are the wetter months across the islands, with more rainfall and higher, more humid temperatures. Understandably, the numbers of tourists and considerably less in these months, apart from the summer holiday, expect cheaper rates and more deals for this time of year.

Trinidad and Tobago are all-year-round destinations, with the Caribbean sun shining through every month. To escape the rain, make the most of the glorious beaches between January and April. The days a drier, and the vibe is high along the coastline. The sea temperatures are perfect for a spot of swimming; if lazing around is more for you, this is also a great time to sunbathe. March is a fabulous month to head to the beach with a chance to catch some Turtles nesting.

The conditions to snorkel and dive are great all year round in Trinidad and Tobago, but you will have better visibility between January to April. The sea temperatures are always ideal, and marine life is always in abundance. The best wildlife is seen between November and February, with hammerheads and mantas hovering over the waters.

Any time between December and April offers some of the best conditions for surfing, with the Northeast winds creating a perfect set of waves to enjoy, with wind swell between 4-8 feet. You may get lucky between June and October when chances of storms are higher, as the unpredictable wind can offer some of the best conditions to surf.

Most months are ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Some will see a few bursts of rain during the day, but don’t let this deter you from visiting during the low season as they are also some of the less crowded months. Of course, the best time of year is between January and April as they are dry, sunny and inviting. Treks and hikes are best experienced between these months too.

This month, the locals are gearing up for the main Carnival event, with smaller street parties, parades and fetes taking over the cities and towns. Join in the celebrations or head to the beach for some water sports and downtime.

The month of carnival, February is buzzing with locals and tourists celebrating the most anticipated event of the year. The weather conditions are perfect for February, with temperatures in the early 30s. This is a great month to do some hiking up to the hidden waterfalls scattered through the islands for that postcard picture moment.

March is a fantastic month if it’s crystal beaches, warm seas and blue skies you’re after. Temperatures are at an all-time high, and rainfall is at an all-time low, it’s a great month to head to the beach and maybe even catch a glimpse of the turtles at the start of nesting season. Head to the waters for a spot of snorkelling as the visibility is perfect this month. The winds also offer some great opportunities for surfing in March.

Best time to visit Trinidad and Tobago frequently asked questions

Anytime between January and April the weather is at its prime, with temperatures hitting 30°C daily, and hardly reaching below 20°C. Chance of rainfall is low and the skies are generally clear.

The dry season kicks in towards the end of December and can last until late April, sometimes mid-May. These days are sunny, bright and see hardly any rainfall.

Expect to start seeing rainfall from May till November, with short sharp bouts of showers which usually last no more than an hour during the day. Once the skies clear, the days are bright.

As to be expected, during the rainier months the islands are much quieter. However, it tends to pick up during the summer holidays with families on their vacations. From September to December, less tourists are around the island.

Peak season starts in January and continues into February with the biggest event of the islands, Carnival. It then carries on into April, with Easter being another peak season.

Low season can be expected between May and July and September and November. These are the months out of school holidays and experience much wetter days.
