Trinidad and Tobago family holidays

Trinidad and Tobago is a twin-island nation but has two very distinct identities. The larger of the two, Trinidad is the business hub with a work hard, play hard way of life. Tobago is more laid back, rich in natural allure and perfect for beach-loving families wanting to experience the Caribbean away from the crowds. There are no mega-resorts here, instead, you’ll encounter mid-sized 3-to-4-star hotels and unflashy boutique resorts. Looking for a Caribbean getaway with a difference? Check out our family holidays to Trinidad and Tobago.

Best activities in Trinidad and Tobago for families

If you are staying at one of the family-friendly beach resorts in or around Scarbrough in Tobago, you must spend a day exploring the gorgeous beaches of Pigeon Point. This breathtaking stretch of coastline could easily be in the running as one of the Caribbean’s best! Pigeon Point Beach is privately owned and protected, so visitors pay a small entrance fee – but it’s worth it! Book a glass-bottom boat tour to Buccoo Reef and the famous Nylon Pool, which departs from the dock at Pigeon Point Beach.

For a day away from the beach take the kids on a hike 400 feet above the city of Scarborough to Fort King George. The impressive fortress was built by the British in the 1770s and now features the Tobago Museum. Admission to the fort is free, and entrance to the museum is a small cost. Take a packed lunch, sit under one of the large Samaan trees and enjoy the superb views of the bay.

Best destinations in Trinidad and Tobago for families

As a place of gobsmacking beauty, Tobago has naturally become a hub of outdoorsy locals who’ve worked out the best ways to explore it – on foot, bike, boat or board, under the water and on top of it. Exploring Tobago with kids is an absolute delight. Parents and children will love the friendly hotels, stunning beaches, tasty food and the plethora of activities at your fingertips.

Here you’ll find one of the world’s oldest protected rainforests with waterfalls, tropical plants and hundreds of species of birds. The beaches are a marvellous mix: calm, surfy, busy, quiet, lifeguard patrolled and protected for nesting turtles. And under the sea’s some of the biggest coral on earth. Stay in Scarborough for the best choice of family-friendly resorts and beaches. Holidays in Trinidad and Tobago are more suited to families with older kids as the choice of hotels with kids' clubs are limited.
