Christmas ski holidays in Switzerland

Ski Switzerland for Christmas 2024

With ample snowfall, striking panoramas and Switzerland’s famous chocolate box scenery, the Swiss resorts don’t need to make much effort to make Christmas spectacular. They make the effort anyway – fairy lights deck the halls and many resorts put on festive markets and torch-lit descents to add to the occasion. If a week of legendary skiing is at the top of your Christmas list, you won’t be disappointed either.

Chalets

Christmas is all about traditions and you can enjoy a good old fashioned stay in one of our lovely Swiss chalets. With many following the authentic chocolate box design and all covered with a blanket of the white stuff, our chalets offer a Christmas-card setting with many having the glow of open fires adding to the atmosphere inside. Families are more than welcome in our family chalets where day-care can be provided to let parents enjoy their Christmas on the slopes - Santa also pays a visit to some properties making the stay extra special for little ones. Spend the evenings relaxing in hot tubs and saunas in our luxury chalets, which will keep any non skiers happy during the day too. Best of all you won’t have to lift a finger - most catered properties serve up a special Christmas feast with all the trimmings on the 25th.

For the best ski conditions this early in the season, stay somewhere snow sure like Zermatt, where you’ll find the lovely Chalet Lara. Zermatt is terrific for groups, who will love Chalet Alessandra– it sleeps 8-11 and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola is only 3 minutes away (the views of the Matterhorn are pretty spectacular too). Chalet Hotel Annahof is a fantastic family orientated property in Saas Fee in an ideal location where you can ski right back to the door. Indulge in one of our superior chalets if you fancy a bit of luxury: we love Chalet Hotel Montpelier in the rich and royal favourite of Verbier and we have some dazzling 4 and 5 star chalets in Nendaz including the lovely Chalet Hautes Cimes.

Hotels

Relax and enjoy fantastic facilities and services this Christmas in our ski hotels. We have a huge range of hotels available during the festive week from luxury 5 star properties to cheap rooms if you’re working on a tighter Christmas budget. There will be no last minute shopping for the forgotten parsnips or getting up early for meal preparations on a half or full board holiday - most hotels provide a gala dinner on Christmas day with the chefs and staff doing all the hard work for you. Opt for B&B if you want to plan the dining yourself – live like the locals and have a fondue or raclette in a nearby restaurant on the 25th. Santa makes an appearance in some properties which children will love – ask us about the most child-friendly hotels if you’re looking for somewhere as a family. You don’t need an excuse to treat yourself at Christmas – browse our superb spa hotels and upgrade to a superior room, suite or room with a view.

Ski some of Switzerland’s best snow in Zermatt, where you’ll find local legend Hotel Mont Cervin (which has been running for 150 years) and get straight out on the slopes by picking somewhere ski in / ski out like Wengen’s Hotel Falcon. For something upmarket, stay 5 star in a resort that’s oozing luxury – we love Hotel Kulm in St Moritz (the views of the lake from here are stunning). St Moritz has some brilliant family accommodation too, like Club Med Roi Soleil. Verbier’s cosmopolitan après ski makes it a must-visit for groups, who will appreciate the central location of Hotel Nevai.

Apartments

It’s your ski holiday and you can do Christmas however you want to in our self-catering apartments. While some like to have their feet up with Christmas done for them, others prefer to take care of the week themselves – and this is where self catering comes up trumps. Put up your own decorations and cook your own dinner to make the place a real home from home. Whatever time stocking opening usually takes place, you won’t have to worry about missing the breakfast sitting. The kids won’t notice the difference in the morning, but when you leave the property they’ll be amazed to step out into a winter wonderland! Most of our apartments have good access to food shops making buying ingredients easy – some stores even sell readymade meals and loan fondue sets. Just because you’ve got your own kitchen facilities doesn’t mean you’ll spend most of Christmas tied to the stove – having no set meals provides the perfect excuse to explore the resort, finding your personal favourite restaurant for raclette and getting to know the locals.

If your priority is the snow this Christmas, check out snow sure resorts like Zermatt, where you’ll find the La Perle Apartments near the town centre. Another resort with excellent snow is Saas Fee – it’s a great place for families and is home to the family friendly Allalin Apartments, which can sleep up to 6. For luxury, both the Eiger Apartments in Grindelwald and Ambassador Apartments in Zermatt share terrific facilities with the hotels they’re connected to, so you can make your own dining plans but still enjoy the conveniences of a hotel holiday.
