While the summertime may be a quieter time in the Bahamas, the Bahamians never miss an opportunity for a traditional Junkanoo festival. The Junkanoo Summer Festival is in full swing in July, and some of the smaller Junkanoos allow visitors to dress up as well and take part in the festivities splashed across the islands.

Independence Week is held in July and celebrates when the Bahamas became an independent nation after 325 years of British rule. Expect a colourful combination of Junkanoo performances and epic firework displays, along with some moving speeches from officials.

Dominating the west coast of Nassau is Clifton Heritage National Park. Boasting historic sites, natural beauties, and some tremendous hiking trails. Visit the ruins of a slave village and plantation for a humbling experience of what life was like for them. Walk through 208 acres of forest and unwind on idyllic beaches. Bring your snorkel too as there’s a whole wealth of marine life waiting for you. If you’re a fan of the finer things in life, hop over to Freeport in Grand Bahama for a visit to the Perfume Factory, a swanky 18th-century mansion building, where not only will you be able to shop ’til you drop, but you’ll also be able to create your very own scent!
