As a purpose built resort, Pila is well positioned for spring skiing at 1800 metres above sea level with pistes stretching up to 2700m. The fact that the mountain is north facing means the white stuff generally stays in good condition and the views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn are spectacular in the spring sunshine.
If the conditions do come up short (it can get quite sunny at this time of year) then not to worry. Ice skating, dog sledding, snow shoeing and tubing are on hand if you aren’t content with lazy afternoons soaking up the rays and sampling Bar Nouva’s yummy gelato. The main town of Aosta is an easy 20 minute gondola ride down the valley and has lots to explore including a restored Roman theatre and original Roman forum. Enjoying some serious R&R in the thermal baths at the Pre Saint Didier spa is another good way to spend an afternoon... you are on holiday after all.
