See in the New Year on the mountainside by spending the week in Pila. In traditional ski resort fashion, the local ski instructors perform a torchlight descent down the mountain, which is always a sight for the eyes. This is usually followed by a huge firework display which everyone gathers at the bottom the slopes to enjoy – have the Prosecco ready at midnight to toast in the New Year.
With restaurants like Lo Baoutson offering scrumptious 9 course meals in the past, you’re sure to find somewhere to celebrate Italian-style, with plenty of food and vino. Many venues provide snowmobile taxis to transport people to and fro on big nights which can make the evening extra special.
If you want to celebrate on a bigger scale, hop on the gondola to Aosta town where Chanoux (the main square) is usually alive with music, comedy and stage acts. Centrally located just a 10 minute walk from the gondola station and round the corner from Aosta Cathedral, the square is a magical place with an awesome atmosphere at this time of year. Also in the town, the Old Distillery and Gallaghers are two super pubs where you’re likely to find some exciting festivities.
