Weather in the British Virgin Islands during school holidays

February Half Term

February is arguably one of the best times to visit the British Virgin Islands. Temperatures average a high of 29°-30°C and 9 glorious hours of sunshine per day. February will also see the least amount of rainfall on the islands and the seawater temperature stays at a warm 26°C, perfect for some snorkelling at Smuggler’s Cove.

Easter

March and April are great months to visit as crowds can be smaller, with temperatures equally as divine. The weather is sunny and warm but not too sweltering with highs of 28° and lows of 26°C, resulting in fun enjoyable days exploring the BVI in the 9.5 hours of sunlight.

May Half Term

May is when temperatures start to get warmer, and the climate overall more tropical. Temperatures average a warm 28°-30°C, although towards the end of the month wind and rain will pick up due to the upcoming wet season. The wind makes for a perfect day sailing in the Caribbean shores on the warm 27°C ocean.

Summer

Summer months of July and August offer an average temperature of 28°C with highs of 30°-31°C. This time of year is normally quiet regarding other tourists as this is peak hurricane season. Although the hurricanes are few and far between, there will be a great probability of rain so be sure to check the weather updates before travel. The rain showers here might sound unpleasant, but they only last up to half an hour with glorious sunshine to enjoy in between them.

October Half Term

October is peak hurricane season in the British Virgin Islands with the most average rainfall, so expect interruption by short thunderstorm spells. Mid November will start to see the easing from the wet season. Temperatures are still extremely warm with highs of 30°C and find the warmest sea temperature at this time of year, reaching a tantalising 29°C.

Christmas & New Year

December will see the rainy season starting to ease. Winter temperatures in the BVI reach a beaming 29°C and lows of 24°C. Christmas day will see 7-8 hours of sun on average, so why not get into the festive spirit on these stunning Islands and embrace the New Year's celebrations in the relaxing warmth.

Best destinations for Half Term & school holidays in the British Virgin Islands

The main island of Tortola is a great destination for families to travel during the holidays. With the local Terrence B Lettsome International airport on the connecting Beef Island, accessibility couldn’t be easier after travelling the long distance from the UK. The island features a variety of hotels perfect for your dream getaway, including all-inclusive style resorts or self-contained apartment and condo-style rooms if you would rather be more private and explore the island on your own terms. The mountainous landscape is the perfect backdrop and fabulous for exploring, especially in the Sage National Park where you’ll find the highest point in all the Islands and be joined by some stunning wildlife.

The nearby capital of Road Town offers a true authentic Caribbean experience with colourful shops and charming restaurants filled with friendly hospitality. Check out the museums and rum distilleries to immerse yourself in the rich culture of the famous Island. Tortola is the home of the Emancipation Festival, celebrated in the beginning of august where all guests are welcome to participate in the annual carnival celebrating freedom, full of colour, traditional cuisine and camaraderie!
