Bad Hofgastein Walking

We love the Sunset Hike to the tip of the Fulseck (take the bus to the start point at Dorfgastein), while the trail along the 2000 year old Roman road overlooks the Hohe Tauern National Park. You can spot native flowers in the pastures covered by the Almenweg trail or check out the riverside sculptures of the Geomancy Hiking Path. Regular walking tours are held here which are a fantastic way of learning more about the area’s natural springs, churches and history of gold mining. Klammstein Castle’s well worth a visit and there are outstanding passages through the nearby Gadauner Ravine and Entrische Kirche Caves. If you want Alpine vistas without the hassle of the climb, you can take the cable from Dorfgastein up to Fulseck. There’s a barefoot path through its Mirror Lake – just a short walk below the top station.

Bad Hofgastein Cycling

As part of the Gastein Valley Bike Path as well as the Alpe Adria Way (connecting Salzburg to Italy), the trails around Bad Hofgastien sprawl the Alps for seemingly never-ending cycle rides. One of the most impressive stretches on offer here is where these routes join together at the 130m long tunnel at Klammstein. You can also reach the iconic Tauern bike circus by heading north out of the resort or pedal down to Bockstein on the path beside the Nassfelder River. For a less strenuous excursion, rent an E-bike and let it help you out on the most daunting sections.

The slopes either side of the village are brilliant for mountain bikes and the rocky tracks have amazing views of the resort, valley pastures and surrounding pines. For new-starters, there’s usually a wonderful team of guides at hand who’ll show you the ropes and point you in the direction of the best routes.
