Hotel Villa Sonia is a delightful, family-run hotel. It's got a nice, peaceful location about a ten-minute walk from the centre of Castelmota, a lovely hilltop village that's about a 15 minute drive from Taormina. A free shuttle bus to Taormina's centre runs three times a day so it's easy to get out and about but it's worth spending some time in the village too. It's got charming cobbled streets, cafés for a morning cappuccino and wine bars and restaurants for the evenings that are authentic and relaxed. If you're planning to explore more of Sicily, we'd recommend hiring a car.
As the hotel's high up in the hills, you'll get amazing views. Each morning breakfast is served on the terrace (weather permitting) that looks out towards Mount Etna and the Bay of Naxos. The pool's a great little spot to recharge your batteries. Take a good book and grab a lounger to sunbathe. You'll feel away it from it all here. Inside has a traditional feel with cool tiled floors in the rooms and a cosy bar where you can get a glass of local wine at the end of the day.
Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 10 mins from Catania airport.
