Hotel L'Ancora's in the centre of Positano, just steps away from a staircase that takes you down to the beach with lots of interesting little shops to distract you on the way. The rooms here are comfortable, specious and elegantly decorated. The best bit is that the superior rooms all have furnished balconies and a sea views, providing the perfect place to hatch out a plan for the day. Having breakfast out on the terrace is lovely and the hotel's restaurant is a great option for dinner, as well - you can upgrade to half board and dine here each evening if you like.

Another great thing about staying here is that adults can use the pool facilities at their five-star sister hotel, Hotel Covo dei Saraceni. The pool, the amenities and the attentiveness of the staff here are excellent and it's a great place to just relax and take in a different view of Positano.

This is a great base for a stay on the Amalfi Coast, with lots of opportunities to take excursions to places like Capri and Pompeii. After a day exploring, we loved dropping in to the terrace bar for an Aperol spritz with a view before getting ready for dinner.

Each morning there's a buffet breakfast with eggs, pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, toast with honey or jam, juices and coffee.

You can upgrade to half board and eat at the hotel each evening. The view from the restaurant is just breath taking! During the day you'll be able to see right across the bay and in the evening the lights of Positano will twinkle before you. With a lovely selection of fresh, local Mediterranean cuisine and the amazing views, it's hard to beat this spot for dinner. Just sit back and enjoy good food and good company.

Other dining options and bars are close by, you can try the seafood at the champagne bar at Le Sirenuse and the famous Franco's Bar right next door.
