Most of the lifts here can remain open until the second week of April, which is a good sign of the snow quality over Easter. Although the sun is a massive bonus at this time of year, the lower slopes do tend to get a bit slushy as a result... Being the early bird in the morning and sticking to the mid stations or above generally means the skiing can still be fantastic. Head up to Piz Sella and Passo Sella for the highest runs on one side of the Sella Ronda and Punta D’oro Goldknopf on the other side, which is above Alpe di Siusi. If worst comes to worst, upgrade to the Dolomiti Superski pass for access to the snow sure Marmolada glacier.

If the conditions do start to deteriorate towards the end of the day, the cheerful après ski scene both on and off the piste is a sure substitute. End a leisurely descent off the slopes at La Stua in the centre of Selva or interrupt a less leisurely sprint down the Sassolungo at the Ciandinat hut, by the Ciampinoi side. We’ve found that a bombardino, the drink often associated with Italian resorts, goes down rather well in the afternoon sun. For that all important Easter indulgence, the hot chocolate at Café Mozart is a real treat after the last run of the day. For those with a guiltier conscience, the ice skating, bowling and curling in the central sports centre is a good activity for afternoons and evenings. Don’t forget you can also take the bus over to Ortisei for the swimming pool and Turkish baths.
