La Villa Easter holidays

Even late in the season, La Villa normally still has great skiing. The snowmaking is some of the best in Europe if it’s still cold enough, but usually it’s not even needed – the winter snow normally manages to stay strong in the sun. There’s always the Marmolada glacier towards Arabba if you want high altitudes – it stretches up to 3342m. The Dolomites are known for being simply gorgeous, massive rocky crags towering above you and one of our favourite things about this time of year is that the clear skies let you really appreciate the scenery – look out for the Sassongher peak and take in the view from the Piz La Ila plateau.

While the potential of slushy spring snow is a good excuse to relax in the afternoons, most people hang up the ski boots early for the Austrian-influenced Italian cuisine anyway. You might find that you’re reluctant to get back on the snow when you’re sipping a nice vino on the sundeck at one of the piste-side rifugios (the one Utia la Fraina is particularly stunning). Great pizzas are easy to find (one of our favourite pizza restaurants is Fornella, over in Corvara) and there’s even seafood at a few places, look out for it at Moritzino which is high up on the mountain.
