Overview - hotel description - Hotel Ylläskaltio description

For a holiday of a lifetime, stay in the magical Ylläskaltio hotel. Over the Christmas period, the resident elves will be ready and waiting to keep the kids entertained, and visits from Santa will keep up that Christmas spirit. But all season round there's something to keep everyone satisfied. For the older ones, there’s a games room featuring arcade games and pool table, and for the smaller ones there’s a soft play area with a range of toys.

The ski lifts are a bus ride away, so you’re never far from the exhilarating range of slopes. If you want more than just a skiing holiday, then the Ylläskaltio has whole load of activities that everyone can enjoy. From catching a glimpse of the Northern lights, to husky sleigh-rides and trips to the Snow Village, the friendly staff can help you arrange it all. If you don’t want to venture too far, then there’s a heap of sledging hills on your doorstep.

When you want to warm up, make your way up to your room and relax in your own private sauna. Or if you want to really soothe your muscles then the hotel’s massage therapist is there to help. Every one of the 72 bedrooms is simple yet cosy, with all the amenities for a good night’s sleep, as well as being a comfortable place to chill out in your down time.

When tummies start rumbling, Ylläskaltio’s restaurant serves up a feast with their buffet-style meals each morning and evening. Illuminating the 260 seats are ornate chandeliers, and with large windows overlooking miles of snow covered scenery, it's the perfect setting to start and end your days. So whether you’re a dedicated skier, or you just want the amazing Lappish experience, the Ylläskaltio can give you all of that and more.

This gorgeous Lapland resort (pronounced “U-las”) has welcomed skiers since the 1930s and is the biggest of the 35 ski areas in Finland, home to the country’s longest slope, the 3km Jättipitkä run (which translates to ‘enormously long’!). The resort is split into two villages on either side of the region’s highest “fell” - a smooth mountain rising above the treeline. Both villages have remained true to their roots - Ylläsjärvi in the south and Äkäslompolo in the north – and both are authentic, b...
With 63km of downhill slopes, the skiing is fairly compact although over 300km of designated tracks make this one of the best cross-country destinations in the world. The uncrowded, perfectly groomed slopes are a beginner’s dream and make learning to ski a fun and relaxing experience. The ski schools meet on both sides of the mountain and speak excellent English with group lessons normally having small class sizes to give a personal feel. Early intermediates will love the wide, cruising runs which are perf...
Both villages are sleepy and traditional so while there are nice places to go for a drink, those looking for a European party scene might be somewhat disappointed. The focus is more on relaxation and entertainment away from the slopes of which there’s more than enough to keep all ages very happy. The Akäs hotel is most popular for a few drinks with a dance floor and club inside, while the restaurants in the resort serve all kinds of local delicacies – reindeer and freshly caught fish are both highly recommend...
