Pragelato Via Lattea Resort

Nestled between three natural parks, high on the Cottian Alps, Pragelato offers spectacular views over the mountain for an enchanting skiing retreat. The stunning scenery and rustic alpine setting has attracted Piedmont’s finest for a number of years, giving it a refined air that is unique from everywhere else in the Via Lattea. Hidden away in the heart of the Cottian Alps, its chic style and peaceful atmosphere make it best for small groups looking for a touch of luxury and families wanting a quiet retreat in a traditional alpine setting. Authentic wood and stone architecture make up the stylish accommodation and some wonderful cafés and restaurants to dine in.

The resort is easily accessible from Turin airport, just under a two hour transfer and can also be reached by train by connecting to the High Speed from Paris to Oulx, where you can take a short taxi ride to the centre.

This is known as the best kept secret of the Italian Alps – as well as soaking up the wonderful culture in this very Italian town, those visiting will be able to ski vast and varied terrain in a legendary linked ski area. Pragelato made it marks on the Milky Way map as the ski area’s newest member after holding the cross-country and ski jumping competitions in the 2006 Winter Olympics. This led to the building of the Pattemouche-Anfiteatro cable car, which links the resort to over 400km of blanketed piste, offering long days of exciting skiing and snowboarding, finished in refined luxury for an indulgent end to your day.

The resort is also excellent for non-skiers who can settle on a sunny café terrace overlooking beautiful views of the mountain, spend a day shopping some Italian specialities or indulge in a number of treatments at one of the spa facilities.

You‘ll be skiing with spectacular views of the mountain in this small resort, unrivalled by any other resort in the Via Lattea, which makes for a mesmerising and unforgettable ski experience. The local ski area is small with only 7 ski runs - 3 beginner, 3 intermediate and 1 advanced making up 50km of terrain.

Beginners have some gentle slopes in the village to start out on and will soon be able to work their way up to the higher runs.

Keen skiers need not worry as the new addition of the Pattemouche-Anfiteatro cable car has made the town the Milky Way’s newest member, linking it to the neighbouring Via Lattea resorts giving skiers and boarders over 400km of piste to explore in the nearby resorts of Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere and Montgenevre. Here intermediates will be in paradise with over 55% of the area made up by red routes. Intermediates can ski in to Sestriere on the red 66 then on to the red 9, to find some gentle tree-lined runs along with some more challenging descents.

The small resort hosted the 2006 winter Olympic ski jump and cross-country events and it has maintained its fame as the home of cross-country skiing with trails through beautifully scenic passes. It now houses the Olympic ski jump in the centre of the resort and is Italy’s largest destination for ski jumping with competitions frequently held here.

The high altitude of the piste means skiing conditions are usually good throughout the season and with high snow-fall in the winter period, fresh powder can be found on the North facing slopes.

The wide open runs are fully exposed to the sun meaning you can appreciate the stunning scenery of the mountain on long sunny days on the piste and the high altitude means late season skiing is still likely to have great skiing conditions.

The resort is one of Italy’s well-kept secrets and is not well known amongst other nationalities so there’s a peaceful pace on the slopes throughout the season with no lift queues in the main ski area.

In the Milky Way you will find the slopes busier and more popular with a wider set yet rarely overcrowded with peak holidays the busiest time to ski.
