Summer holidays in Westendorf Austria 2017 & 2018. Summer holidays in Westendorf Austria 2017 & 2018. Summer holidays in Westendorf Austria 2017 & 2018.
Highlights: • • Loads of gentle cycling • Over 700km of walking trails • Weekly festivals and events
The ski lifts here serve the summer visitors brilliantly; they’re fantastic for getting around the mountains to reach the hiking paths. Some of the best walks come down from the top of the Alpenrosebahnen cable-car, to the east of the village. You’ll work up quite an appetite on 200km of trails, a brilliant excuse to indulge in some of the Alpine lodges spread over the hillsides. Walk down to Scheffau and Ellmau in the valleys of the Kitzbüheleralpen (the Hintersteinersee walk from Sheffau is one of our favourites) or for a bit of a challenge, hike up to Hohe Salve. The same paths are open to Nordic Walkers, so this is a great chance to have a go at the sport. We love the themed walks; you’ll learn loads about the region’s extensive traditions and history on the long Alder route.
The 800km of bike routes in the Kitzbüheler Alpen can be directly accessed from the village, making this a fantastic launch-pad for mountain bikers, single-trail fans, road cyclists and leisure riders. Heading out, the Straubing Runde is an 18.5km rollercoaster with climbs and ridge rides and a day trip to Kitzbühel is perfectly feasible on two wheels. Road cyclists will love the Westendorf to Windautal circuit, a 28.5km ride through stunning alpine mountain scenery.
E-biking is the big trend in this neck of the woods: there are lots of well-developed cycle routes away from the roads between the whole Kitzbüheler Alpen and around the Kaiser mountains, making this the largest region in the world for electric bikes.
