Holidays in Salzburg

The hills are alive with all sorts of activities in the summertime at Salzburg– the world famous setting for ‘The Sound of Music’ and hometown of Mozart. See the sights around the town, a UNESCO world heritage site known for its lakeside position, colourful gardens and baroque architecture. If you fancy upping the pace and altitude, take the Untersberg cable car and walk to the peak of Salzburg Hochthron (the views are incredible).

Salzburg Walking

The province of Salzburg has over 7200 kilometres of devised hiking paths, and with 30 percent of the region comprising of nature reserves, you’ll struggle to find a more serene spot for a stroll. From the city itself, head to the Untersberg Mountain, where you can either hike to the summit or catch the cable car up. There’s also Nordic walking at the base of the Untersberg; leafy trails that vary from 1 to 25km stretch around the mountain. You’ll find shorter walks in Fuschl and Wallersee, where you can spend days touring the tranquil lakes or the foothills of the mountains. Finally, spend some time exploring the city sights like the Mirabell Palace and the Cathedral, famous for their architectural brilliance.

Salzburg Cycling

Said to be Austria’s most bike friendly city, cyclists will feel right at home in Salzburg (they even have free, self-service bike maintenance points dotted around!). A number of famous cycle routes pass through the centre, including the Tauern Bike Path and the Mozart Bike Trail, which make for great round trips for road cyclists.

Mountain bikers can’t stay here without making the trip to Leogang for the bike park: it’s “Kona Groove Approved” and one of the best in Europe. Packed with pedigree, all the runs are fantastic... but we do have a few favourites: The Speedster, the downhill track used for the World Championships, is seriously steep and full of tight turns. Then there’s the northshore Lumberjack trail and to top it off, the Flow Master, the jump park specially designed by Markus Hampl.

Salzburg reviews, 5 star rating and resort and summer area information is collated by SNO man from staff experience and customer feedback.
