Weather in the St. Vincent and the Grenadines during school holidays

February half term

February half term is the Caribbean dream, where the humidity drops to its lowest, and sunshine is always pride of place. This month forms part of the country’s dry season, where the temperature is relatively cooler than the rainy season. There is still a chance of rainfall in the dry season, just in smaller and less intense bursts. The northeast trade winds blow steadily at this time of year.

Easter holidays

The sun always shines for the Easter Holidays, where April has the least amount of rainfall all year. April is the last month in the country’s slightly cooler and less humid dry season. When rain does fall it is for short, tropical showers. Eight hours of dazzling sunshine a day, just what the doctor ordered and more!

May half term

May falls outside of the peak season but still has little rainfall and plenty of sunshine to bask in. The rainfall is brief and light, and sometimes a welcome relief from the sun. The rainfall and temperature start to increase in the month of May, ready to welcome in the start of the rainy season, June.

Summer holidays

Rainfall is much heavier in the summer months, where August and September form part of the Caribbean’s hurricane season. Rain falls in downpours or thunderstorms, but hurricanes rarely strike. The winds are more irregular in the summer months and the temperature and humidity is taken up several notches.

October half term

There is a very high chance of rainfall in the month of October, as October is part of the hurricane season. The chance of hurricanes is unlikely in this region of the Caribbean, due to its low placement in the hurricane belt. October brings irregular winds with a hot and humid atmosphere.

Christmas & New Year

December has a moderate chance of rainfall, combined with lots of glorious sunshine. The start of the New Year also gives way to the start of the country’s dry season – so definitely stick around till New Year. The evenings get slightly cooler at this time of year so make sure you bring a light jumper.

Best hotels for half term & school holidays in St. Vincent and the Grenadine

Completely bathed in the Caribbean Sea, you will need a magnifying glass to find the hidden speck that is Mustique Island on a map. The private island of Mustique forms part of the Grenadine islands, once referred to as “Los Pajaros” or “The birds”, because of how the islands appeared to scatter like a small flock across the sea.

The Cotton House Hotel is a four-star hotel on the island of Mustique, an island of pure tranquillity and safety. Mustique has an onsite activities team who organise activities for the children staying on the island. Activities include drive in movie nights, tennis, pony camp, beach picnics and treasure hunts, and kite flying competitions. There is a water sports centre offering PADI certification courses, equipment hires and boat charters. Mustique is the perfect island to reside on with neighbouring islands and cays easily reachable by boat.

The island and surrounding waters form Mustique Conservation Area, home to the magnificent Hawksbill and Leatherback turtles. If you arrive between the nesting season of May to October, you may get the chance to see a nesting or hatchling release. This hotel is nothing short of paradise.

A better value, but equally gorgeous holiday destination is Sunset Shores Beach Hotel on the mainland of St. Vincent. The resort offers a family package deal, as well as a whole host of recreational amenities such as whale and dolphin watching, bike rentals, hiking and nature trails and the vast selection of water sports - catering for everybody!
