Festivals and events in St. Vincent & the Grenadines in April

One of Bequia island’s most popular events is the Easter Regatta, a four-day sailing festival that falls over the Easter weekend. The island becomes animated, as keen sailors participate in the competitive camaraderie of Bequia’s seafaring culture. This 40-year, maritime pastime is one of the largest in the region and welcomes both the traditional, local boats and more modern yachts to dock up at Elizabeth Port. At the shore, the spectators watch, captivated by the boats performing on their crystal, blue water stage.

On Sunday, the sailors join in the revelry at the Lay Day fête on Lower Bay beach. The beaches are packed and offer scrumptious barbequed feasts, sandcastle competitions and gumboat races. The Grenadines are a sailor’s dream!

The Carriacou Maroon & String Band Festival is a quintessential celebration of indigenous Caribbean culture. The practice of ‘maroon’ is the secular act of gratitude and worship towards their African ancestry through rituals, dance, and chants. These soulful ceremonies preserve the heritage of the local islands; Carriacou, Petite Martinique and Grenada.

Top places to visit St. Vincent & the Grenadines in April

If you caught the sailing fever at the Easter Regatta, we recommend taking a tour of the flawless islands of Mayreau and the Tobago Cays. The sea cascades from the shoreline in spills of blue ombre, where the clear water appears a mirage. The motto of the cays is Sail Fast, Live Slow and we are keen to oblige. If you are a Pirates of the Caribbean fan, make sure you check out the cay of Petit Tabac where Kiera Knightly and Johnny Depp were castaways. There is no better place to island-hop.

The sea has a rich ecosystem with an abundance of marine life and a magnificent, horseshoe-shaped, phosphorescent reef. Whilst mooring up, watch out for turtles, stingrays, and gentle reef sharks that lurk beneath you. For a closer look at these majestic animals, we recommend kitting yourself out in snorkelling gear and swimming beside them in their natural habitat. The sea turtles are not shy to your curious eyes as they forage for seagrasses to chomp.

To top off a beautiful day, call upon the beach barbeque deliveries and gorge on fresh barbequed lobster, seared tuna, roasted plantain, and all sorts of barbequed delights – all delivered to your boat or the shore. On land, hike amongst Tobago Cays endemic iguanas, or just simply relax in this unrivalled archipelago - there is plenty of shade if you should need it!
