In June, the islands energy reaches full crescendo at St. Vincent’s long awaited, twelve-day carnival, Vincy Mas. Something of the old Caribbean, St. Vincent’s carnival is uniquely intimate, whilst still maintaining the distinct vibrancy and camaraderie of the larger carnivals. The city of Kingston hosts the annual Vincy Mas, with parades, parties, costumes, music and competitions packed into its immersive schedule. The fortnightly extravaganza concludes with Monday’s J’Ouvert and Tuesday’s Mardi Gras, where steel pan, soca and calypso music fills the air.

If the season of partying has taken its toll, reconnect with nature at the Vermont Nature Trail on St. Vincent’s Leeward coast. The two-mile trail is rich in verdant rainforest and teeming with wilderness, including St. Vincent’s native parrot. For a better chance of spotting the famed parrots, we highly recommend an early morning start and gentle meander. There is an entrance fee, but you can’t put a price on this enchanting forestry. Ensure you bring insect repellent if you want to avoid being nibbled by bugs!
