The ski season in Switzerland usually starts in late November/early December and lasts until April, but it depends on snowfall each year. The Swiss resorts that tend to have the longest seasons are Zermatt - late November - late April and glacier open year-round and Saas Fee.

Yes, the Swiss are impressively good with English. While they have four official languages of their own - French, German, Italian and Romansh - they’ll likely have learnt English at school and will be used to speaking it with visitors. English-speaking instructors will be found in most Swiss resorts.
