The pretty little village of Klosters is especially alluring around Christmas time, when the traditional alpine huts and surrounding mountains are blanketed in snow, making for a proper yuletide experience. Take in the gorgeous scenery with a romantic sledge ride up the mountain, or up on slopes where you get stunning panoramas of the surrounding area. The village hosts a charming Christmas market, and if you stay in Davos or St. Moritz you’ll also find Christmas markets with glühwein, local specialities and lovely gifts. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants in all 3 of the main towns, but Davos probably has the best facilities of all. Foodies will appreciate the many gourmet restaurants in the region – we love Restaurant Talvo in St. Moritz which serves Michelin starred Mediterranean food.
For snow-sure skiing your best bet is the Engadin ski area because of its high-altitude and glacier skiing. The snow making facilities in the Engadin area are very impressive too, with around 400 snow cannons to whip up some extra snow if necessary. That’s not to say the Davos/Klosters area won’t be great for some Christmas skiing too, with some high intermediate slopes up at Weissfluhjoch and on the Jakobshorn – the one down to Kublis is super-long although you do have to get the bus back after.
