Lovely, we'll definitely come back

We loved the skiing at St Johann and we’ll definitely return. We’d been to Kitzbühel before and skied over there for the day and returned wondering why we’d bothered – it was so much busier than St Johann! The ski area isn’t big but it was certainly enough for us and it was lovely and quiet. Advanced skiers might struggle however because there’s only one black run.
The bars on the ski slopes are great and there’s one outside bar in particular that we liked – it was great in the sunshine and then at 3pm you hear yodelling and they have a retractable roof that comes over!
We didn’t see much of the village because it was difficult to access from our hotel, but I’d describe it as a very traditional Austrian village.

St Johann

Reviewed 29 Oct 2014

I visited St Johann a few years ago and stayed in a guest house in town. It was a great way to explore the town because we had to walk through it every day to get to the slopes. Luckily we found a ski hire shop that would keep your ski gear (boots and skis) in their shop and you could pick them up every morning which meant a casual stroll through the town every morning. The rental shop was at the bottom of the main slope. It is quite usual to get ski lockers at the bottom but it was nice to be able to be safe in the knowledge our kit was safe locked in the rental shop. just don't forget your ticket! although i did this at least twice and just had to give my name to get my kit, luckily! There was a lovely apres bar at the foot of the main slope in St Johann called Max Bar which seemed to have a great atmosphere in the evenings but I enjoyed a nice hot chocolate in the afternoon here and could watch people tumbling down the main slope, very enjoyable!
