Room 101 guest...

Reviewed 10 Jun 2016

The food to start with was great. I liked the traditional French restaurant style.
I liked the fact that my room was #101 after the game show! It had a nice private balcony and I couldn’t complain!
The situation of the Lodge on the high street was good. From the Lodge to the centre of town was literally a five minute walk, and the access to the slopes was great.
It has a nice Jacuzzi and sauna and a lovely log fire with nice leather chairs.

The Lodge 2016 review

Reviewed 2 Jun 2016

The accommodation was fine – good food, helpful people. In terms of the layout and bar it was great, and the service behind the bar was OK. The facilities were good, there’s a nice snug room. To reach the slopes you literally just had to walk out the door and down the road to the bus stop, and equally you could walk into town.
Bedrooms were pretty small, which doesn’t usually bother us but they were smaller than expected. When you have your snowboard bag and your own bag to store it would be handy to have somewhere to keep things in your room. There was just a bed that you could walk around and the corridor.
There was plenty of room in the social areas.
Overall when it comes to value for money we got what we wanted.

No problems!

Reviewed 19 May 2016

Bearing in mind we only paid £700 it was ok, no complaints! The food was superb; every night was really good. Staff, ditto – lovely staff. Location was acceptable, not great. It was exactly as it said in the book so no complaints, and we got used to walking to the bus. One of our party went home early so we ended up having 2 rooms and 6 beds between two of us, which we thought was great! The sauna worked well without any problems.

The Lodge - Val d

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

You would say it's Quality not Quantity that's best, but with the Lodge you get both.

First class food and wine with a first class service.

Great rooms and lodge facilities and a cheaper bar than when drinking in London.

Would definitely come back again.

FANTASTIC PLACE

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

Had a really great last minute break to Val d Isere at Easter. The Lodge is a lovely place with loads of social space to meet new friends. The room we had was a disabled room so I suppose it was a little larger than the normal ones. The only complaint about the room was the shower, the screen was absolutely useless and every time one of us had a shower the floor got flooded. The food was excellent, really nice to have a choice in each course and the wine was plentiful. The staff were ok although we definitely got the impression it was their last week and they would be glad when we were all gone - but I don't blame them, they work really hard and they must have been looking forward to going home! All in all we would definitely return to the Lodge.

Fantastic holiday, friendly staff and excellent food!

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

My party and I stayed in the Lodge in Val d'Isere during the second week of February and enjoyed every minute of it! We were greeted at the airport by Simon, the rep, who gave us a friendly and informative speech on the coach and organised our ski hire, lift passes and lessons before we arrived in resort.
When we got to the lodge we were greeted by a host of staff to help us with our bags and show us to our rooms.
Our party stayed in rooms 4 and 7 which were both very comfortable, warm and well equipt with an ensuite bathroom, ipod docking station, television and plenty of power outlets. The rooms also have a fantastic view of the Olympic piste, which was light up each night.
For breakfast we were offered a full continental buffet including croissants and pain au choc's as well as a fresh fruit bowl, porridge and hot options which was always served to us with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts Mike, Laura, Sarah, Ellie, and Lottie.
Our ski's and snowboards and boots were stored in the large, functional ski room with heated racks which was coded from the outside and the walk to the bus was a mere 200meters away which took us to the main lift area enjoyed the fantastic Espace Killy skiing area for the day!
When we arrived back at the lodge after a tiresome day on the slopes, Emmi the bar person provided us with complimentary vin chauds, and there was always a delicious cake waiting for us which I was told were made by Mark and Adam. There are luxurious wellness area facilities which were clean and very relaxing after a long day on the mountain!
The lodge is nicely located at the edge of town so we could amble into town where there were lots of things going on throughout the week.
In the evening we were served a delicious meal, prepared by the chef Dave and his team Ed and Owen, starting with canapes, and had the choice of choosing a vegetarian or a light option for the main meal. The food overall was delicious, I was particularly pleased with the quality and variety of the vegetarian meals available.
The Lodge Manager Jo and her management team of Louise and Guy were always available to answer any questions and ensure our stay was as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Highly recommended accommodation, company and skiing area. We would all go back to the Lodge next year.

Very underwhelming and disappointing.

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

We had a great holiday in Val d'Isere with fantastic snow and we visited some great restaurants and bars on and off the slopes. The chalet was in a fairly good location at the end of town and not far from the bus stop to take you to the piste. Staff in this chalet/hotel were friendly and helpful. The food was quite good for a chalet of this size with wine inc during the meal, with a pay bar to use after dinner.
After reading the reviews on this chalet/hotel we had high expectations but to us the photos are very deceiving and we felt the chalet was scruffy, run down and in need of decorating and some general TLC. We stayed in room 1, this room was tiny. It was hardly big enough for two people to get dressed in at the same time and was also scruffy with stains on the toilet wall etc. We had a small cupboard (not large enough to hang clothes and ski gear, so ski clothes had to be put into our case at night) which had 2 small shelves, one which had pipes etc running above it. We had a small window (no balcony) but as this room was on the ground floor and overlooked we were unable to have the curtain open while we were in the room. While we were lucky to have a tv in the room, we were unable to watch it as the signal was too poor for the two English channels available. This room was also next door the side entrance of the chalet which was the main door used at night. Consequently we could hear the door opening and closing and people coming in right through the night. The room was also opposite the lift which again was very noisy and in constant use during the night. At the age of 47 and after many ski and summer holidays, I have never stayed in such a tiny, scruffy and poor quality room. We did discuss this with the chalet manager and while she was helpful and understanding, as the hotel was fully booked she was unable to move us. She explained she had received complaints from other guests about the size of the rooms all of whom had rooms on the same side of the hotel as we were staying. Apparently some rooms on the other side of the chalet are bigger. While I will definitely return to Val d'Isere, because of these reasons I will not return to this chalet hotel.

High standard accommodation with a couple of caveats

Reviewed 28 Jan 2014

The chalet seems to be of a really high standard from reading the description but we had a couple of issues while we were out there – the heating wasn’t on in the communal areas which meant everyone had to wrap up warm during dinner etc and 2 or 3 times the showers were only luke warm (the managers did try to deal with this). It’s quite a large chalet and some of the food options had run out by the time we were seated, as I booked the holiday with my husband, we thought we would be able to enjoy some meals as a couple, but you can’t choose where you sit and there was never a table for 2 available so we were sat with other people – they were all very nice but we were just hoping for some time as a couple on the holiday so this is worth bearing in mind for any other couples looking at the chalet (if you want to sit alone, consider a hotel, rather that a chalet-hotel). The skiing in Val d’Isere was good and a bus took us to the ski area every day. We were there over Christmas and they put on a Christmas dinner but that was about it in terms of festivities – would have been nice to have more interaction with the staff about good places for après etc, which has been a nice touch on previous holidays.

Big hotel, sparse games room, nice spa

Reviewed 22 Jan 2014

The Lodge is the billed as the biggest hotel in Val D'Isere and I think it would be great for a really big group, its nice for anyone who likes the idea of meeting people. The games room seemed a bit empty with just a few things to do, but thought there would be more for the kids. It is in a quiet area but still walking distance to the centre or the bus is nearby. The spa area is really nice place to relax at the end of the day but make sure you get them to check what's available on your dates before you book the holiday, because sometimes not everything is open throughout the whole winter.
