Great service!

Reviewed 20 Oct 2020

We travelled with Snow.Cab in January and were very impressed. Our driver was ready-and-waiting for us with a smile and a name-sign in the arrivals lounge at the airport. The minivan looked new, and was clean inside and out. The drive was smooth and comfortable, and our driver was knowledgeable about the resort, and gave us great advice on where the best pistes and restaurants were. All-in-all we could not have asked for a better or more cost-effective service. We'll certainly be using them again.

Favourite!

Reviewed 22 Apr 2016

I would definitely recommend visiting Serre Chevalier, it’s my favourite place. The scenery and skiing are great, I’d say the skiing was best for intermediates and above. One place I always go back to is La Grotte. The snow was crap this time round, but there was a good enough selection to ski anyway.

Phenomenal

Reviewed 20 Apr 2016

The skiing is phenomenal, Serre Chevalier is one of the best places I’ve ever skied. There are loads and loads of good runs, with something for everyone and some good cafes and bars on the mountain. There was one bar in the town when we were here which was nice for some lively après ski, but my friends went back in January and it’s been shut down which is a real shame. I wouldn’t recommend it to a young group as it’s a quiet little town - it’s more for couples and people who are there to ski loads then eat, have a glass of wine and sleep!

Quiet, large & unspoilt ski area

Reviewed 8 May 2015

We booked Serre Chevalier at the last minute and really liked it. The skiing itself is the best thing, you can ski all over the area with 3 different villages to ski to. It was all fairly quiet and unspoiled and we had really good weather. Apparently a lot of French people own the apartments there so the resort isn’t very busy at all.

Brilliant holiday

Reviewed 16 Apr 2015

We all really liked Serre Chevalier and had lots of snow while we were there! We’re a group of very mixed abilities aged 16-62, from some who like easy skiing to others who like black runs and there was definitely enough for everyone to ski. If you’re wanting to party it’s not that type of resort, I wouldn’t recommend it to 20 somethings but for families and older people it’s perfect.

Fabulous resort, fabulous weather, fabulous skiing!

Reviewed 15 Apr 2015

Serre Chevalier is a fabulous resort, we loved it here and we’ll definitely return. Serre Chevalier isn’t as slick as places like the Three Valleys / La Plagne but it’s very underrated and there are very few Brits! Although it was Easter week, the slopes were deserted and we didn’t have to queue for a lift for more than five minutes. It’s an incredible place to ski with lots of great slopes. It’s the perfect resort for intermediates and after a dump I imagine that the off-piste’s amazing.
It’s not a good resort for young children in my opinion (if you’re with young beginners you’d be better off in La Tania or La Thuile). Usually accommodation, lifts and ski hire are all in one place but you don’t get that in Serre Chevalier; we had a lot of walking around with equipment as the accommodation isn’t right by the slopes and there are no ski lockers at the bottom of the lifts.

Excellent snow conditions

Reviewed 1 Jul 2014

The skiing was excellent. I’ve been on quite a lot of ski holidays and the snow was the best I’ve ever encountered. We had a big dump the day before we got there which was ideal. The weather was just the right temperature, not too cold. I really liked the skiing. The transfer times were also reasonable, about an hour and a half I think. The town we stayed in was sort of part-modern, and it was refreshing to see that there were only a couple of apartment blocks, and these were not your usual 6 or 7 story buildings but more like 3 stories.
It was out of peak season, and it was nice that there were no big queues and that the pistes were quiet.

Lots of button lifts

Reviewed 17 Jun 2014

I liked the skiing here, although there were lots of button lifts. Also the snow wasn’t great when I went. I don’t think I would go again because it’s made up of 5 separate villages and the ski area isn’t linked. You have to take the bus to get around. The place I stayed was a sleepy little village and there wasn’t much going on.

Brilliant week

Reviewed 11 Jun 2014

I’d never done Serre Chevalier before and it was a last minute choice because everything was running out... but we had a great time. The transfer is fine, 2 hours from Turin and you stop off at Montgenevre on the way to Serre Chevalier. There isn’t a lot to do in the town, we were there in March and there was only 2 or 3 people in a bar each night. There aren’t an awful lot of mountain restaurants either compared to other resorts, only about half a dozen. The last three years have been excellent so we had no problems with the snow. For high intermediates and advanced skiers the area is superb, there’s a black run to the village that's intercepted by a really easy green/blue run so you can cut off quite easily if you want to.

Underrated!

Reviewed 22 May 2014

Serre Chevalier isn’t a trendy place to go which is why it’s so good! If you have a good dump of snow there’s loads of off-piste. It’s a long valley and you can go all the way over to Briancon at one end and board all the way back. There are three villages which you can go to each of and a couple of board parks. The area doesn’t have many drag lifts which is a bonus if you’re a boarder, I can only think of one which takes you up from Briancon. I haven’t been here with beginners but I imagine it would be a good place to learn as there are some nice, wide runs.
The away day from here is Montgenevre which is also really nice.
I’ve been here on 2 holidays and 2 away days. Around Christmas and early January is when you get a really good snowfall – this time round (beginning of Feb) it snowed every day apart from Wednesday and we were waist deep in powder.
It’s not a busy resort with loads of nightlife but there’s a bar called La Grotte which is really busy after a day skiing at around 3-4pm and is open til quite late with live bands and stuff. They normally have a happy hour too. There are a lot of quiet tiny bars which we went into a few times but we always end up in La Grotte. There’s a hotel bar in the town which we came across that was quite lively, but it’s not well advertised in the resort and we only found it towards the end of the week.
There are a few good restaurants including a nice pizza place. Le Frog is excellent for food although not so good for drinking as the bar is quite small. They also have sport on if you want to watch a match (La Grotte has lots of TV’s too).
Everything is really reasonably priced and a holiday here can be affordable if you’re on a tight budget as you can always go to the supermarket and do a packed lunch.

Good skiing, best for intermediate to advanced skiers

Reviewed 18 May 2014

We ate out quite a bit, the food in resort was good. The prices were good, especially for lunch. There was a supermarket as well which we bought food from for self-catering. The skiing was good too. It’s probably best for intermediate to advanced skiers. We didn’t have to queue for very long. I would go back. The resort is best suited to couples I think.

Nice sized ski area, would ski here again

Reviewed 16 May 2014

I hadn’t skied here before but would probably go back – there’s a good sized ski area with a good range of skiing. It was easy to get around as it all goes along one side of the valley. Everything is linked so you don’t have to get any buses and can ski and lift your way around. It snowed most days and was actually too snowy, the visibility wasn’t great, hopefully next time I’ll have better weather!

Try the cross-country skiing if downhill isn’t for you

Reviewed 14 May 2014

I don’t really like skiing that much, but I did go out on the blue runs and the odd red run. The rest of the group were very happy with the skiing. My husband wanted to come here because there is an off-piste mecca nearby called La Grave which is he loves. I tried out cross-country skiing as an alternative, which was hard work! There’s a track which runs along the river. I did it through a local French ski company but they had English staff and they were good, I would recommend it. Villeneuve is more of a modern and purpose built village. There were some places to eat and shop; there’s a supermarket and the pancake place is good. There weren’t many veggie options (I’m vegetarian) but I liked the spinach crêpes.

lovely & quiet

It’s quite a nice ski resort, not one of the best in the world but I liked that it was so quiet, so you can really get away from the crowds of people.

Loads of slopes, never busy

Reviewed 6 May 2014

I've been to Serre Chevalier in January, February and late March and it’s never been cold when I’ve been there, March was especially sunny (I’ve skied a lot at Les Deux Alpes which is always a lot colder). It’s also never been busy which makes a massive difference.
The villages are all really different depending on what kind of holiday you want. Chantemerle is really family orientated, Villeneuve is more for partying youngsters as it has the UCPA French ski hostel, Briancon is more Olde Worlde as you’ve got the walled city/town and Montier is a bit of a mix of nothing, but it does have the natural baths.
The thing I like about it here is the idea that you can ski from village to village and at the end of the day if you don’t end up back in your resort, there’s a bus that goes through the bottom of the valley, so you can get back easily that way.
The ski pass also does a day in Montgenevre and Alpe d’Huez if you want to go there. I haven’t done either yet as Serre Chevalier alone has 250km of skiing and a lot of off pisting, so you’d struggle to ski it all but I probably will next time I’m there just for something different.
You really do have slopes for every level as the area is so huge. The only thing I would say that lets it down is that it has some drag lifts which are quite long, the antiquated chair lifts definitely need to be updated– but I think they are in the process of modernising it all.

Good for our mixed group of skiers and boarders

Reviewed 7 Apr 2014

We were a mixture of skiers (1 beginner and 1 expert) and snowboarders (3 beginners and 1 expert) and Serre Chevalier was good for all of us. There aren’t many runs for beginners but you move on quite quickly and if you take the snow lift to the middle of the mountains there are some decent ones for practicing where some of our group spent a lot of time.
The Station bar has good nightlife and there are lots of restaurants around the villages.
We had loads of snow when we got here and it snowed on a couple of days so we had lots of fresh powder and also some sunshine - the best of both worlds.

Had a great time here on my Stagger

Reviewed 7 Apr 2014

We were here for my Stag do and had a great time, I would definitely recommend it for other Stag dos.
The group was a mix of skiers and boarders and the area was fantastic. Two people were beginners and they had plenty of blues and greens for the first couple of days and the rest of us had loads, there’s quite a bit of tree runs and the views are very good up top.
The snow was good – not the best I’ve ever had as it didn’t snow while we were here, but they had the snowmaking on overnight which did a good job. There was a mountain guide company in the resort and you could get a taxi ride down to a larger village where they had hockey matches every night if you wanted to.
The nightlife is good, as well as some quiet French pubs, La Grotte is really lively and had a theme night every night. There are also some really nice restaurants and the price for eating out isn’t extortionate. We ate at MoJo’s a few times which is run by an English couple who always gave us a warm welcome. The quality of food is really good, they did a mix of amazing steaks and traditional French food on a three course set menu.

Really liked this ski area

Reviewed 28 Mar 2014

We very much like Serre Chevalier, it has an extensive area with plenty for all levels...
I’m a snowboarder and loved it, but it’s definitely as good for skiers as it is for boarders.
It was super cold when we were here in January but the snow was good. There’s a good Irish bar near the nursery slopes if you need warming up...

Where I learned & I'm still skiing!

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

Where I learnt to ski. And as I’m still skiing to this day, it must be a good place for beginners to start! Take the Grand Alpe gondola followed by the Combes chairlift for a greeny blue beginner’s domain. Serre Chevalier will soon have you progressing onto its widespread red runs, varying in difficulty. The off piste area around the Yret chair lift looked like a rider’s heaven, if ‘Danger’ signs are your thing. Lots of snow park and boarder cross fun!
