Fab!

Reviewed 10 Jun 2016

Absolutely fabulous. The weather at the end of March was beautiful and really warm, T-shirt weather. The slopes there are fantastic, not for advanced skiers but for beginners and for us they were perfect. And there was nobody on them; it was so quiet it was unbelievable! We never had to queue for lifts. Compared to France where the resorts get so busy it was fabulous. We had lessons all week which were good. We did a few activities in the resort… The one that comes to mind as the most fun was the laser quest where you run around on the snow and shoot each other. I didn’t think it was going to be that fun but it was great! We also did one of the husky safaris which was magical.
I would highly recommend Levi all round and have already told friends about it. It’s not to everyone’s taste but it was perfect for us.

Loved it!

Reviewed 26 May 2016

We loved Levi and had a fabulous time. What was so great was the variety of activities around and about Levi. We did lots of cross country skiing and downhill skiing. The lifts are excellent and the locals are really nice. It’s a good resort for families, though I’d advise to be careful what time of year you go as it can be quite cold and dark early in the season. It can also get quite windy and chilly. March had calmer weather and the temperature was around zero so it was fine.

Best time to visit Levi = Easter

Reviewed 18 May 2016

Another brilliant week in Levi, we’ve been to Finland about 15 times in total. We would have booked next year’s trip already, but because Easter falls later they’re stopping the flights early (even though the Levi ski resort only closed in May).
December and February are dark and cold, whereas when we come to Finland in July it’s 24h daylight and warm. Easter is the best time to ski because there’s still snow (we had 1m of it this year) and it isn’t dark – we were skiing from 9:30am to 6pm. We spent 5 and a half days skiing out of 6. Because you’re so far north, even though the ski area isn’t high altitude it always has good snow. There isn’t very much for expert skiers, but I’m quite happy to potter about on the beginner and intermediate runs with my family – we did all 43 runs in the week. Maybe I’m biased toward Finland but I’ve skied in many places in the Alps and prefer it here.
Both times we’ve visited we have been on a husky safari – last year we went with the Levi Husky Park, this year was with Tundra huskies. The first trip was great, but without question of a doubt the Tundra trip was a million times better – highly recommended.

Would love to return

Reviewed 5 May 2016

I would love to go back to Levi. I had a fantastic week here with my son and daughter, we loved it! To start with, the weather was cloudy and snowy, but then it got really nice and sunny – cold – but lovely and bright.
We really enjoyed the skiing, there are good grades of easy runs, ones that are a bit harder and then difficult runs. Everyone there is really friendly. There are nice places near the slopes where you can go and get a cup of coffee if you want one.
We skied for three days, then did huskies, snow shoeing, horse sleigh ride, reindeer sleigh ride and ski-dos… It was an action packed week! I would definitely recommend having a go at other activities as well as skiing.

Return to Levi - with our little girl this time

Reviewed 27 Apr 2016

A brilliant week in Levi. We came 10 years ago and returned with our daughter this year to give her the experience with the reindeer and huskies. It was nice going back as we knew what to expect. It’s changed a bit, with a bigger ski centre – we spent a lot of time on the nursery slopes which were faster this time round! We went tobogganing in the same area which was fun. The weather was quite warm at -2, it had been a lot colder the week before. We had thermal suits and thermals from home, but only needed the suits for the snowmobiling and reindeer safari. We saw the northern lights one night which was great.

Christmas @ Levi

Reviewed 13 Apr 2016

I think we’d go back to Levi – we liked the town and the local people were very friendly. I would definitely recommend getting a flight so that you arrive in the afternoon, with enough time to get the meeting with the rep out of the way, then go to Zero Point to get your skis and measurements sorted out. Otherwise, the next day by the time you’ve gone to the welcome and hauled over to Zero Point to get the bits, the better part of the day is already gone and there’s not much daylight left. The whole place is very compact, Zero point was about 5 minutes from the hotel we were staying in and I imagine it’s the same with other hotels.
The skiing’s very good – we aren’t brilliant skiers but there was enough variety for our level. At first we hadn’t realised you have to get a bus from Ground Zero, otherwise you either have a very easy piste or a more difficult one. You can pay for a bus pass, and they run every half an hour or so. Once you’ve trundled onto the bus with your skis etc, the journey takes about half an hour and then you have to make sure you don’t miss the last bus later on. Some people were complaining that not all the runs were open so the advanced skier may have been a bit disgruntled, but it was fine for our level.
It was very weird skiing by artificial light at first, but was fine when we got used to it, don’t let it put you off! It gets dark at about 2-3pm.
The weather was cloudy during the week and the locals were saying there wasn’t much chance of seeing the northern lights, but we managed to see them at around 11pm on the last night! My daughter downloaded an app that told you when there was a chance of spotting them, so we went on the frozen lake outside the town (said to be the best place as it’s away from the lights). We stood for about an hour and a half and then saw them – a great way to end the week!

Skiing and Santa with the kids

Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

The main reason we visited Levi was so that the kids could ski and see Santa. It was brilliant for our kids who hadn’t skied before, and I would definitely recommend it for first time skiing because if you don’t end up liking it there are other things to do. For older children / people who already ski it might be a bit small, but for young kids and beginners - 5/5. We thought the ski instructors were great and we did a few trips. The snow was brilliant in early December and the temperature was around -5 which was good, it can get really cold there which would have been more difficult with young kids.
A couple of criticisms: When we booked the Santa thing we hadn’t realised it took a 2.5 hour trip each way, so we swapped in resort for another Santa experience that was a lot nearer (it was good with a nice set up). I also paid for a snow suit which I didn’t need in the end.
Overall a great week and I wish we could have gone back!

Beautiful

Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

Levi’s a beautiful place, it’s not a massive ski area but it’s very pretty. It’s cold – temperatures were minus 30 some days, and it gets dark at about 2 o’clock so they put the floodlights on. We saw the northern lights out on the lake, they told us it would be a good night to spot them so we went out there at 2 in the morning – incredible.

Family week in Levi

Reviewed 9 Jun 2015

I hadn’t skied before but enjoyed our week in Levi. The town was covered in snow at the end of March which is just what you want and there was a lot of easy skiing as well as more challenging slopes. We found a lot of things to do with the kids like swimming and ten pin bowling. Some of the youngsters went to see the huskies and really enjoyed it. We went on a trip to Kolari which is definitely worth a mention for its railway station and the lovely 8 Seasons Café. Overall, we had a great week and as a resort, Levi was just what we wanted.

Lovely, great for activity holidays

Reviewed 27 Mar 2015

Levi’s a lovely place. There’s a fair amount of places to drink and eat in town and lots for families.
I’ve never seen so much snow! It was pretty warm for the time of year, -8 to -10°C was as cold as it got. You get a strange, dull light in the daytimes; when people say it’s dark, it’s not actually pitch black. It started getting dark at about 2-3pm in the afternoon and between 9 and 2-3pm, it was like dusk. The whole place is floodlit so there are no problems there.
It’s very expensive out there when you consider all the activities you end up doing. We arranged ours through the tourist information centre and ended up dog sleighing, snowmobiling and ice karting as well as doing ski school. If you’re in Levi and you’re not taking part in the activities or skiing, you’re probably on the wrong holiday... My advice would be to do everything – especially the dog sleighing which is quite something. It’s not like it appears in the pictures where they seem to saunter along – these things move! The dogs are bouncing vertically before you leave and then you’re whizzing through the trees behind the guide. The sleigh was great, taking you 30 or 40km into the wilderness before you stop for juice in a tent in the pitch black dark. Will definitely consider coming back here.

Good skiing, friendly resort & northern lights on Christmas eve!

Reviewed 27 Mar 2015

We hadn’t been to Levi before but really liked it for a week. The resort has a nice selection of shops and a quiet, friendly atmosphere. It’s probably not a place to go for wild après ski, but for families and more mature skiers Levi is perfect.
We stayed here over Christmas and I was expecting there to be a few more Christmassy events – they did have a gathering for a service when the slopes closed, with multinational music and readings but not a lot else, which was quite surprising!
We did a lot of the activities like husky sledding, snowmobiles and ice karting (booked independently through the tourist information centre) and also got to see the northern lights on Christmas Eve, which was amazing. We went down to the frozen lake to see them, but they could actually be seen from our chalet too.
We skied every day, we had only been to the Alps in the past but we actually absolutely loved it here! I don’t know whether there would be enough for advanced skiers after a couple of days (there were only a couple of black runs) but for beginners and intermediates the slopes were lovely and wide and there were no queues at all which was wonderful.
We were a bit concerned about the levels of daylight/darkness when we booked, thinking it would be absolutely dark up to 10 and then get dark again at 2. However what you actually get is a longer period of twilight which wasn’t a problem at all.

Very geared to families

Reviewed 30 May 2014

Having been to the Snow Villages the previous year, we found Levi quite different in comparison. It’s much more commercial with lots going on, a very different kind of holiday to the Snow Villages where you’re used to getting up and having miles and miles of nothing.

The little Snowpark for kids is great and my stepson loved it. They have toboggans there so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own stuff – there’s something called the Village Toboggan by the lifts where you get your toboggan and put it back when you're done. There’s also a bowling alley and a set of swimming pools, although they’re quite expensive to use as a family.

We had snow every day and thought it was quite warm at -15 compared to the previous year when it was -26!

I would thoroughly recommend Levi if you’re there for the skiing and snowboarding. There are plenty of choices for ski hire, Intersport seemed quite good, there’s always plenty of choice of stuff to hire.

The village itself is quite sedate, I didn’t notice a lot of noise from bars in the town like you get in France. Levi has plenty of places to eat, we found all sorts, including a Mexican! There’s one restaurant that faces the slopes where we ate most nights, it did a good mix of dishes with Italian stuff like pizza as well as traditional Finnish options like reindeer. We also went to one of the restaurants in the Crazy Reindeer which was nice but a little expensive, so good for a treat!

We all loved it

Reviewed 19 May 2014

We had a fantastic week here and would definitely do it again.
It was very cold at -26°C so it is definitely worth hiring the suits if you go on a safari at night time. We saw the northern lights on 2 occasions and were very glad to have hired the thermal suits as there’s no shelter when you're out there. You have to walk out from Levi for about 20 minutes as they tell you to go down to the lake and there are no bars or restaurants to warm up in.
The night in the igloo was fabulous and is really worth doing for a once in a lifetime thing. You’re given a certain igloo -it’s best to book igloos 1-4 as they’re over the fell as you can see all the way down.
We had a perfect night, you stay awake all night to try and catch the lights.
The only gripe was that we were told we had to get out much earlier than we actually had to the next day, because that’s when our reps did the pick-up. If we had known we had an extra couple of hours, we would have stayed, had time for breakfast and got a taxi – it would have made a big difference after staying up all night and spending so much money.
My husband and daughter skied but it was really cold on the top of the mountain, you would have to be a very hardcore skier to ski all day here. We went on the huskies and one woman with us had a young child who was very unhappy because it was so cold, so January might not be the best time of year for very young children.
The Finnish people were very friendly and spoke good English.

Fantastic skiing and affordable prices

Reviewed 18 May 2014

Levi is lovely. The skiing is fantastic. It’s good for beginners and people who are just first starting out. There are lots of drag lifts (so there aren’t many snowboarders). It’s very civilized skiing, you don’t get people whizzing past you almost hitting you. Nice for families. There is fantastic cross country skiing too. If you go and do some excursions like husky rides then it’s a very nice experience. We tend to do some different ones each year, there’s lots to choose from and I would do them again. Levi is not overly expensive. You pay the same for a beer as you do back home. There’s a limited number of restaurants because it’s not a huge place, but again the prices aren’t crippling. There’s some shopping in town. Be warned there are a lot of Russians here at New Year and they like to drink a lot.

Top tip for skiing in Levi

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

I have a useful tip for those staying in Levi - avoid having to carry your skis back to your cabin or hotel by renting a locker at Zero Point, located at the bottom of the front pistes. You can leave a pair of walking boots/trainers here too while you ski, so that you don't have to wear your ski boots back to the hotel.

Everything within walking distance

Reviewed 10 Mar 2014

Levi has everything within walking distance and its only a 15 minute transfer, so its a breeze to get to and from.
We’ve been here quite a few times and have done the skiing, huskies, reindeer and most recently snowmobiling amongst other activities (you can book a tour too but we know the area well enough to explore).
We stayed as a couple but it’s a very good place to families, there’s a kids play area with sledding and you can go and see Santa (even if you go when it’s not Christmas!).
