Go here if there's no snow elsewhere

Reviewed 26 Mar 2015

We skied in Kaprun because that was where the snow was! It’s definitely the place to go when there’s no snow anywhere else.
It’s a very nice place, a quiet, upper class resort rather than a big party town (apparently the après and nightlife are over in Zell am See). The whole Kaprun/Zel resort does offer a variety of skiing and the glacier is snow sure but can get closed down by high winds.
The skiing on the glacier is relatively limited – if you’re there to ski hard and ski a lot, you won’t! After 3 or 4 days when the snow improved I went over to Zell am See for a change. During 11am to 2pm the service is only 1 per hour from the glacier to Zel if you want to change areas. The town and slopes are connected by buses, there isn’t anywhere ski in / ski out here.
There probably is a lot going on in the resort, but after a 4 course meal, bottle of wine and a swim and spa at the Alpenhaus where we were staying, we didn’t need anything else!
Transfers, it’s only approx. 85Km but took over 2 hours 1st wait for a delayed Manchester flight to arrive, then go via another resort before the main party got dropped off at Zel am See then finally to Kaprun.

Family friendly little resort

Reviewed 21 May 2014

The resort was what we wanted. It was quiet. The next resort on, Zell am See is more lively. 20-somethings would probably be happier there. Kaprun is more family friendly. There was enough nightlife in the town to keep the young people happy though, there are plenty of bars and pubs. The snow could have been better while we were there but it did snow up on the glacier. We skied in Kaprun to start with and then moved onto the skiing higher up.

Great group holiday, good fun

Reviewed 20 May 2014

We were pretty impressed with Kaprun and skiing in Austria as a whole. The prices for après ski and things are very good especially compared to Switzerland and France. The snow was really good up the top where the glacier is but not so good lower down. If you’re really good, you’d probably get a bit bored but for intermediates and beginners it’s fine and there’s always off piste if you want to do that. There are 2 main resorts and we spent one day in one and the next in the other – we did the same with the après as well.
