We liked it!

Reviewed 2 Jun 2016

Really liked the Aalborg – obviously it’s a very family friendly hotel and we’re not a group with children, but we knew that before we went! If you’re a big group of younger people looking to party it’s not the hotel for you, but if like us you’re happy to go out for something to do in the evenings it’s fine.
The location was good and it was helpful having the ski lockers and ski hire underneath. The location’s quite convenient for the lifts and we could get the little drag down to the chair lift or go over to the gondola. There are bars nearby as well as there being a bar in the hotel (which is a small one, but once the kids had gone to bed there was plenty of space).
The food was great; I was pleasantly surprised as I’ve had some shocking meals on ski holidays! We normally had two choices of meals in the evenings and it was a mixture of traditional French (like raclette) and other dishes (seemed to be mainly meat based, but we’re not vegetarian so we weren’t looking for non-meat options). Starters were just help yourself.

3 generations on a family ski holiday

Reviewed 13 Apr 2016

M - As the grandfather to loads of grandchildren, with sons and daughters all staying together over Christmas, I really liked the Aalborg.
K – It was really good, a brilliant place to be with the kids, spot on for a family holiday. The whole set up was brilliant, staff could look after the kids if you wanted them to. The location was great - you could walk out of the front door and onto the slopes. Food was excellent too, no problem there. They did a lovely Christmas dinner with Turkey and all the trimmings.

Great bedrooms & bathrooms

Reviewed 15 Apr 2015

The Aalborg was fine, the rooms were great and had the best bathrooms I’ve ever seen on a ski trip - spotlessly clean and not tatty at all. The food on the whole was good although on some nights the service was great while on others it was bad… I don’t think it helped that we were tucked away in a dark corner of the dining room. During the day, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It was very easy to get to the slopes and town.
There were a few downsides, I don’t know if it’s just the way things are changing but when they did cake etc. in the afternoons, you ended up having to pay for tea and coffee with your cake. This was a bit unnecessary and niggled some of the group – it would have cost the hotel hardly anything to provide hot drinks free of charge. It was the same with the wifi, you could get it for free but had to keep renewing it and had to pay more for decent signal.

We really enjoyed it

Reviewed 24 Feb 2015

Hi iddi, thank you for booking our ski holiday - we have all really enjoyed the sport and were very lucky with great instructors and fabulous sunny weather throughout... Well except the two days of travel when it snowed and created havoc.
The location of the hotel was superior and so handy to have ski from the door. The terrace for lunches was great and the food was good. The lounge area was relaxed and great for socialising and the kids made friends.
I wasn't impressed with the kids club for Dina. I don't think they were dedicated or even creative with the activities - I did mention it.
The rooms were alright - a bit on the basic with small space to manoeuvre and a tiny squeaky bed for us.
The village very quaint and accessible with lots to see and do - great choice.
You've probably already heard about the shut down at airports due to snow.
Our return flight was delayed by 8.5 hours!!! The kids were heroes to have survived it.
We did have another incident on the way over, which was due to human error. As we were reaching close to the village (3km away) the snow was building up. The driver did not bother to put chains on the wheels. We slipped backwards (on the edge of the mountain) and hit the car behind us. A few minutes after we stopped The van in front of us slipped backwards and hit us!! We had to get off and wait for another bus to take us up to the hotel - it was extremely nerve wrecking.
I hope this is useful for you.
Will chat when I see you next
X

Fantastic position, nice bunch of people

Reviewed 23 May 2014

It’s a really good hotel. Well positioned because you have doorstep skiing, some people in other hotels had to walk to get to the mountain but we were on it.
We had really friendly staff and they were all helpful and polite, everyone staying in the hotel was lovely and seemed to be on our wavelength so we all got on.
It was clean but basic, but basic in a good way, not plush or anything.
We enjoyed the food. In the mornings, you go down for a buffet style breakfast which always had really good choice. It was the same buffet style in the evenings but you got a menu with 3 different options and then went up to collect them. There were 3 courses including lovely homemade puddings. There weren’t many other facilities but there were things close by if you wanted a spa or swimming pool.

Near the skiing, nice big rooms, just needs a lick of paint!

Reviewed 21 May 2014

It’s a nice hotel in a nice area. The best bit was probably how close it was to the slopes and lifts. Everything was good value for money and the food was good was well – we were half board and had a buffet breakfast where you go up and get your own. In the evenings they had a bit of buffet and a bit of service with a 3 course meal.
The rooms we were in were basic but very large – they could have done with a lick of paint but were fine for what we needed.
We didn’t use too much of the facilities but they did offer a ski school, kids club, massages and nights out.

Fantastic hotel. Families should take rooms on the higher floors away from the bar area

Reviewed 20 May 2014

Overall fantastic. The hotel was a lot better than we imagined – it was our first package holiday. I have to say though it was all well organised and we were quite surprised at the quality of everything.
We had good rooms which were interconnected and had lots of space. They were basic but that’s quite normal when you are skiing, and they were clean. They weren’t luxury, but that was fine, it was all you needed. Everything was great at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and the childcare facilities were very good and well organised. The staff responsible for looking after the children really impressed me. They left a very positive impression on me after watching them closely. Our boys went bowling together with the other children on an organised evening out, and there were lots of events generally.
The hotel caters to everyone, from families and couples to young people. It all seems to work, there were pub crawls and quiz nights and something going on every night, and the hotel bar was quite lively, but we didn’t particularly notice any noise from it. Our room was high up, away from the bar, on a high floor. I think that’s why we didn’t have any problems with noise. I think it’s important that families and people who want a quiet atmosphere take a room on a higher floor.
The staff were very helpful – when we arrived we were absolutely exhausted (having travelled a long way in the UK and then all the way to Les Deux Alpes with young children), and even though it was after service had finished, the staff still made us some chips; very accommodating.
The food was very nice. It was better quality than I expected and the menu was decent considering the hotel is quite large and has to produce a lot of food. It was different every evening and they served a nice beef dish one night, as well as pasta and obvious choices. It was just what you wanted after skiing.
The location is absolutely perfect, spot on. The hotel is ski in / ski out and the ski school is based just outside, which is just what you want when you have young children. No need to carry everything a long way. There is also a ski hire shop just underneath the hotel. My only gripe is that you have to take the cable car to get to most of the nursery slopes because of the layout of the resort.
We didn’t really need to leave the hotel much because we are a family with young children but you could quite easily go out if you wanted to.
We don’t normally go back to the same place but we had such a good time I want to book it again for next season. Unfortunately it already seems to be quite full for next year though.
