Family ski trip to Alpe d'Huez

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

After many years of waiting we were at last able to take our son, Neil, and his daughters, Lola and Evie, and our daughter Philippa, and her daughters Billie and India, to ski in France. This was a once in a lifetime trip for my wife, Eva and myself, and, as we have both been retired for over 8 years, possibly our last chance.
We took over the whole Chalet Sarenne, in Huez village, hosted by a wonderful young Irish couple, Danny & Nichole. This signature chalet is brilliant and we couldn't fault our hosts nor the rest of the staff who made this a real holiday to remember.
Whilst Eva and I were the only experienced skiers, thanks to the excellent tuition of the ESF instructors the others, ranging in age from 41 down to 9, were able to ski some extensive green runs in the afternoon of day one, and made great progress throughout the week.
On the hosts' night off, we had an excellent dinner at the Genepi restaurant in Alpe d'Huez, having been chauffeured there, and back, by one of the restaurant staff-brilliant.
Truly a holiday to remember....
PS, We have already booked to go back to Alpe d'Huez next year, in Chalet Amelie.

The Perfect Retreat from the Slopes

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

The perfect retreat from the slopes! Nestled in the old village of Huez, just 5 minutes by gondola from the main resort, this chalet was perfect in every way. Very spacious rooms with all you would need plus a few little extras. The lounge comfortably fitted 8 on the plush sofas. Hot-tub, sauna and steam room..... what more can you say. The chalet is a very short, 1 minute walk from the gondola but beware....!!! The gondola shuts at 5 and it’s a bus ride back or an extremely long and winding walk. If the blue run 'Village' is open then you can ski all the way down to just short of the gondola station... The wide sweeping curves of the 'Village' run made for the perfect end to a perfect days skiing.

Unbeleivably good! Exceptional is an understatement!

Reviewed 28 Jan 2014

Sno should be blasting this place all over the site! The chalet is absolutely unbelievable, I’ve been to a lot of places and ski 2 times a year and it’s ""the best place I’ve ever stayed in"". Chalet was absolutely immaculate, welcome really good. I have allergies and they catered for them excellently. The food was another level, us and the other 3 men who were staying in the chalet with us were all coming home early for the food! The two hosts who lived in - exceptional is an understatement. They were a couple and seriously couldn’t do enough for you. They made my holiday, it was a different level. We definitely got the service we paid for and then some. The first morning the guy took us all up and got our ski hire sorted for us. The hot tub didn’t work one day – this has happened before in chalets I stayed in and it usually takes 3 days to fix… he did it in one day. The lady I was staying with lost a ski off a chair lift into some deep powder, the guy in the complex went for 3 hours to look for it, got his mates to help. I went with my best mates Mrs – it blew her away. She was there with her 3 young kids and the hosts were unbelievable with the kids. She had had a hard time of it with health issues and it made a lady that had been through a lot of pain very happy. As well as us there were 3 middle aged men who loved the place too. We all ended up chipping in to give the 2 hosts a tip at the end of the week. Although it says it’s close to the gondola, if the gondola is closed it’s an effort to get to the top. You have to get a bus that only comes every hour and a half or so. Also worth knowing that the bus stops at 7pm (the chalet staff would make phone calls for taxis etc if you need them) so its difficult to get in to town after hours. This obviously wouldn’t be a problem for families, you don’t really need to go into town when you have the hot tub in the chalet. The rooms could have done with having more shelves for clothes – ended up with clothes flung all over – but the staff brought us chairs up to hang our clothes over. I’d recommend the chalet to anyone – if I had to rate it out of five I would give it a ten. I heard the same hosts might be there again this year, if they are you will never ever ever regret it. I would pay half what I paid again for the stay I had here.
