Feb half term in the Aosta Valley is super for skiing. The high altitudes of the resorts and ski areas usually equals consistently good snow around this time of year - putting things in good stead the week off school. Top this off with enviable access to quality off-piste and heli-skiing on the high peaks and the Aosta Valley is unlikely to disappoint.
What’s more, most British tourists head towards French and Austrian resorts, leaving the lift queues here short and the pistes virtually empty. With its close proximity to the impressive resort of Chamonix, Courmayeur is great if you fancy sampling both sides of the Alps but without the heaving crowds. Meanwhile, Champoluc and Gressoney usually remain quiet despite the Monterosa ski region coming to notoriety as the World Snow Awards’ ‘Best Upcoming Resort’.
If you want the little ones to make friends, February is the time for competitions in La Thuile, and skiers of all ages can get their teeth into the powdery goodness of the snowparks and freestyling. Snow sure Cervinia, with access to Zermatt, is the most popular among families in the Aosta valley, while Pila is fantastically cheap making it a favourite for school trips and families on a budget.
