Easter in Ruka is a fun-filled affair, with Easter Egg hunts usually going on around the resort and bars and restaurants putting on special Easter-themed dinners or hosting live bands. Days are long and generally sunny at this time of year, with an average 17 hours of daylight per day in April – perfect for a good day’s skiing followed by a lazy evening on a restaurant terrace taking in the stunning arctic views. The restaurant at Chalet Ruka Peak is perfect for this with its sun-soaked top terrace and views of vast snow-covered forests, lakes and fells.
Easter can be a risky time to holiday in some ski resorts as the weather warms up and snow can become slushy. Happily, Ruka is renowned for the quality of its late season snow because of its location just below the Arctic Circle. The average daily temperature in April is -20c, keeping the snow crisp and fresh for longer. For extra peace of mind, there is snowmaking equipment on every single run. In the unlikely event that the snow gets slushy later in the afternoon, there are a whole host of other non-skiing activities to keep the whole family entertained. Take a snowmobile tour, go husky sledding or even try bowling!
