Pyhä Easter holidays

Easter in Lapland sees some changes in the weather – the temperature hovering around a milder 0˚C and -4˚C (as opposed to averaging -10˚C to -13˚C in the earlier months).

There are more daylight hours to ski in but with temperatures usually still below freezing, there’s rarely any of the dreaded slush appearing. With most of the slopes being north-facing, the conditions both on and off-piste tend to be fantastic right till the end of April. The designated beginner area and facilities including a magic carpet and a Junior SnowPark provide plenty to enjoy throughout the week. You usually have to be prepared to shed out a fork load for skiing on school holidays, but Pyhä tends to be much less expensive than French or Swiss resorts, with its ski pass being on average a third cheaper.

While slushy conditions usually serve as the final push to try other activities, you’ll want to do them here even if the slopes are perfect. Go ice-fishing or challenge the kids in an ice-karting race. Husky, snowmobile and reindeer safaris are a super way to enjoy the national park. It would be wrong not to indulge over the Easter period so head over with the family to Huttuhippu restaurant to taste Lapland’s finest hot choc and donuts...
