With a snow-clad, fairy-light adorned village and more sightings of Santa than the North Pole, Christmas in Whistler is nothing short of spectacular. ‘Dress like Santa Day' has become something of a tradition here: on which the ticket office give free lift passes to the first bunch of skiers dressed as Mr and Mrs Claus, resulting in the wonderfully bizarre experience of bright red Santa's dotted about the snow-white slopes.

Weekly events like the Fire & Ice Show and kids' activity evenings should still be going strong, on top of a long list of festive things to do. Look out for Christmas movies at the library, carols at the Westin, church services and ‘Skating with Santa' at the ice rink - only a few of the features from recent years. Hotels are known to have their own share of events and activities, such as bedtime stories with Mrs Claus and treasure hunts - and practically every venue in town plans a Christmas dinner fit for royalty.

With one of North America's longest ski seasons (lifts usually open in November), it's quite clear that Whistler's always on Santa's nice list, receiving a generous stocking full of snow each year. Topping the list of best resorts more often than not, the ski area meets the needs of every kind of skier - from family zones to world-class terrain parks and brilliant backcountry.
