With famously sunny slopes, world-class grooming and family-friendly activities by the bucket load, Kimberley Alpine Resort’s an excellent base for half term, especially if you fancy a change from the bustling European resorts at this time of year. Set away from the main town, weekdays here are so quiet that previous guests have been known to book into group lessons to find themselves the only ones in the class…
Northstar Mountain is the perfect beginner stomping ground and the super Telus ski school offer special Learn-2-ski programs for first timers, magic carpet lessons for nippers as young as 3, and a range of Kid Zone courses – like the Adventure Camp. Hopefully they’ll continue to have a flexible booking system which works especially well for children –if you buy a 3 day course, you’re given 3 one-day tickets that can be cashed in whenever suits.
Being the middle of the season, this is a super time for the more advanced to experience the legendary Purcell powder and gladed terrain – often on slopes so empty you could hear a pin drop.
A big draw of half term trips here’s the blissfully short transfer time – fly into the Canadian Rockies International airport and you can reach the slopes in under 30 minutes, leaving you more of your precious week to enjoy the mountain.
