Jasper Christmas holidays
While other resorts are begging Santa to bring them snow, this ski area often has sleigh-loads by Chrimbo, with the lifts usually opening in early November. At a lofty 1698m, Marmot Basin has the highest base elevation in Canada, and access to groomers, tree-runs, bumps, bowls and chutes galore – all we want for Christmas.
When it comes to festivities, ski on the 25th and you're likely to bump into the man in red as he recovers from his round-the-world trip on the light Rocky Mountain powder. Or, if this doesn't tempt you away from your stocking, the ticket office have been known to discount passes in the spirit of goodwill…
Stay in the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and you may think you’ve been spirited away to Lapland - in recent years, their ‘Festival of Christmas' event has seen elves skating on the lake, horse-drawn wagon rides, Christmas cookie decorating and a postal service that'll send letters to Santa, and have his hand-written reply delivered to your room.
