It’s hard to think of somewhere we’d rather spend Christmas than in a cosy Canadian mountain town surrounded by one of the world’s most beautiful national parks. Christmas is a time for big celebrations in Banff – in past years nearly everything’s been decorated in fairy-lights and there have been Christmas trees around every corner. There are various town traditions worth looking out for - children can usually find activities like balloon modelling, crafts, and even a carnival to add to the excitement. A typical Christmas evening on Banff Avenue includes a ‘parade of lights’ through the town to the sound of carollers and sleigh bells. Santa’s rarely hard to find – even on Christmas day where you might meet him out on the slopes…

For a feast on the day itself, the Elk on Banff Ave is famous for its festive menu (although you might find that every Christmas dinner after is incomplete without their candied yams…) and the British themed Pump & Tap usually puts on a splendid spread.
