There’s a lot going on to celebrate the New Year in this neck of the woods and celebrations tend to start early - in recent years the Vorsilvester Party (organised by Kirchberg Ski School) has taken place on the ski slopes on the 30th December. This tends to include a children’s flag parade, a stunning torch-lit descent and a huge fireworks display. On New Year’s Eve, many of the bars (we like the London Pub) host parties with live music which gives this small but lively village an electric atmosphere. Most hotels serve special gala dinners in the evening too – see the individual hotel pages for more information. If you’re eating out and fancy celebrating the New Year in style, book a table (ASAP – they go quickly!) at Simon Taxacher’s restaurant – he’s won more awards than you can shake a stick at and rightly so.
When it comes to a week on the slopes, you’ll have the 170km Kitzbühel-Kirchberg area to explore. The snow should be in pretty good nick come the end of December and beginning of January - there are also 703 snow canons throughout the resort for extra coverage if it’s needed.
