Igls Christmas holidays

This charming and traditional spa town is a lovely place to spend your Christmas.

In terms of the conditions on the piste, there should be enough snow cover to access all of the runs over Christmas but if not, the Stubai glacier has guaranteed skiing from October through to June and is covered by the Innsbruck Glacier pass.

There are numerous events to keep you busy in this lovely spa town when you’re not taking to the slopes. It’s no surprise that sleigh rides through the forests and skating on Igls’ natural ice rink are especially popular over this festive period. In recent years, the village has hosted a Christkindl Market and a brass band concert at the mountain chapels at Elbögen.

The biggest feature on the Christmas calendar here is the Igls Christmas Mountain event, which is held annually on 23rd December in the village centre and makes the village even more of a Christmas card scene than it was before. Carols are performed in the village square where there’s usually a huge Christmas tree and a nativity scene. An evening parade then takes place through the village, featuring angels, shepherds and animals, as well as Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, while choirs, marching bands and wind ensembles perform. The event usually draws to a close with attendees singing "Silent Night, Holy Night" under the stars. This is a not to miss evening, but if you don’t make it, there’s usually another Christmas concert at Musikpavillon Patsch in the days between Christmas and New Year.
