You don’t have to spend a whole week in Soldeu and El Tarter to have a fabulous time. These mountain villages work well for short breaks too, keeping prices low but quality high when it comes to pistes, lessons, accommodation and restaurants.
Most packages fly into either France’s Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS) which is about 2h15 drive away, or Spain’s Lleida-Alguaire Airport (ILD) from which it takes about 2h45 to get to resort. If you pre-book your equipment hire and ski pass before you set off, you can save time queuing and have everything waiting for you when you arrive.
Spend your day exploring the local slopes – which include former World Cup Avet piste – or the wider Grandvalira ski area shared with Pas de la Casa. For evenings, there are a number of bars to choose between, including El Tarter’s Abarset which is one of the nation’s best spots for après.
The bulk of short break accommodation in this neck of the woods is half board hotels, which provide your first and last meals of the day, letting you enjoy lunch out on the mountains in between (check out the Igloo restaurant up in Grau Roig). Food prices tend to be a lot more reasonable than you find in France and Switzerland, making holidays here good value for money.
